June 2012—Dean of Libraries Janice Welburn announces the appointment of Michelle Sweetser as university archivist effective June 1. Ms. Sweetser joined the staff of Raynor Memorial Libraries' Department of Special Collections in April 2004.
Sweetser earned an A.B. degree in Anthropology from Dartmouth College and her M.S.I. (Archives and Records Management) from the University of Michigan. In her years at Marquette she has appraised and processed university records, responded to numerous reference requests, and prepared displays for many campus events. She has also has had primary responsibility for the preparation and presentation of several important digital collections from the university archives, including "Women in Blue and Gold," "Building a Campus," and "Service at Marquette."
In making her announcement Dean Welburn said, "the University Archives is essentially the institutional memory for Marquette. The University Archivist plays a critical role in identifying, acquiring, maintaining, and providing access to records that document the evolution and history of Marquette University."
The University Archives comprises more than 6,000 cubic feet of materials in a wide range of formats—from paper to 16 mm film to digital photos and files.
