Exhibit: Words and Power
October 2017--A current exhibit in Raynor Memorial Libraries sheds light on ways historical powers have sought to control what can be read—and thus what ideas can be known and shared. “Words and Power: A History of Censorship Through Rare Books” walks one through a history of European and American books that have been challenged, from a 1599 vernacular edition of the Bible to Joseph Conrad’s The Heart of Darkness.
The exhibit, curated by the Department of Special Collections and University Archives, is located in the Prucha Reading Room (Raynor Library, 3rd floor) and runs through the end of the school year.
