International coverage of over 3,800 journals in the fields of medicine, public health, nursing, dentistry, veterinary medicine, and the preclinical sciences.  Medline encompasses information from three print indexes, Index Medicus, Index to Dental Literature, and International Nursing Index, as well as other sources of coverage in the areas of allied health, biological and physical sciences, humanities and information science as they relate to medicine and health care.  1966 to present.  VPN required if off-campus and also using RefWorks.

 
Medline via PubMed  from National Institutes of Health   Medline & PubMed Comparison (PDF)  

PubMed includes bibliographic citations and abstracts from over 5100 biomedical journals published in the United States and 70 other countries.  The molecular biology databases include DNA and protein sequences, genome mapping data and 3-D protein structures.  1950 to present.

 
Web of Science   from ISI  Search Tips  

Combines Science Citation Index, Social Science Citation Index, and Arts and Humanities Citation Index in one source.  Indexes can be searched individually or combined.  Search by words in author, title, keyword, abstract, journal title and author affiliation fields.  A unique Cited Reference Search feature allows ‘forward’ searching by locating articles that have cited an older document.  1980 to present.  VPN recommnded for off-campus access.

Provides full text for over 7,000 journals covering the social sciences, humanities, general science, multi-cultural studies, education and much more.  Coverage varies by publication.  Some full-text PDFs from 1985 to present.

 
Access Science (Encyclopedia)  from McGraw-Hill  

AccessScience is the online version of the latest edition of the McGraw-Hill Encyclopedia of Science & Technology with access to all the articles, fully illustrated.  In addition, it includes new trends and developments in science and technology from the McGraw-Hill Yearbook of Science and Technology volumes, and definitions from the McGraw-Hill Dictionary of Scientific & Technical TermsAccessScience also includes biographies of scientists, Nobel Prize winners in all fields for all years, headlines from the journal Science News, and links to related web sites.

 
Applied Science & Tech Index   from Wilson  

Provides indexing, abstracts and some full text articles for more than 390 periodicals.  Includes aeronautics and space sciences; atmospheric sciences; chemistry; computer technology and applications; construction industry; energy; engineering; food and food industry; geology; mathematics; metallurgy; meteorology; mineralogy; oceanography; physics; textiles; transportation; and other industrial and mechanical arts.  Indexing 1983 to present; abstracts beginning in March 1993; some full text beginning in 1997.

Uses a specialized search strategy to retrieve citations from the cancer subset of PubMed.  Indexes over 4600 biomedical journals.  1960's to present.

 
CRISP (Computer Retrieval of Informaiton on Scientific Projects  from National Institutes of Health   Search Tips  

Searchable database of biomedical research projects funded by the Department of Health and Human Services.  Includes: Grant number, primary investigator and address of affiliated institution, project title, initial review group, and abstract for each project.  1972 to present.

 
Dissertations and Theses   from ProQuest  

This database contains records for more than 2 million doctoral dissertations and master's theses.  Also included is the full text content for nearly 900,000 dissertations.  Includes extensive coverage of North American graduate schools, with coverage of some European universities beginning in 1989.  Includes bibliographic record of dissertations written in the United Kingdom and Ireland from as far back as 1716, with full abstracts, for titles available from 1986 in 'ProQuest Dissertations and Theses.  A separate database contains the subset of Marquette University doctoral dissertations in full text.

 
GreenFILE   from EBSCO  

GreenFILE indexes scholarly and general interest titles, as well as government documents and reports that offer a unique perspective on the positive and negative ways humans affect the environment.  Drawing on the connection between the environment and disciplines such as agriculture, education, law, health and technology, GreenFILE serves as an informative resource for anyone concerned about the issues facing our planet.  The database contains nearly 300,000 records, full text for selected titles and searchable cited references for more than 200 titles as well.

 
Health Sciences in EBSCO   from EBSCO  Search Tips  

Two databases are included: Health Source: Consumer Edition - Provides full text for over 255 health periodicals, over 1,065 health pamphlets, and 23 health reference books; and Health Source: Nursing Academic Edition - Provides full text for over 480 journals focusing on multiple medical disciplines.  This product also includes Clinical Pharmacology, providing information on prescription, over-the-counter and investigational drugs, herbal and nutritional supplements, and Stedmans Medical Dictionary.

Journal Citation Reports - Science & Social Sciences  from ISI  

This unique multidisciplinary resource presents quantifiable statistical data that provides a systematic way to determine the relative importance of journals within their subject categories, including highest impact journals, most frequently used journals, ‘hottest’ journals, and largest journals. The "Science" portion covers about 5,000 leading international science journals from ISI database and the "Social Science" portion covers 1700 leading journals from Social Science Citation Index.  Basic information about each journal is also included, e.g. publisher, frequency, title changes, subject categories assigned, etc.  Covers 2004 to 2006.  VPN recommended for off-campus access.

 
NLM Gateway   from National Institutes of Health  

Provides a single interface for searching multiple resources from the National Library of Medicine including Medline, Old Medline, LOCATORplus (NLM's online catalog), and Medlineplus.  Includes bibliographic citations and abstracts of journal articles; NLM catalog records for books, journals and audiovisual materials; meeting abstracts on AIDS/HIV; and consumer information on health conditions and medications.  Journal citations are available from 1958 to the present.

 
OMIM (Online Mendelian Inheritance in Man)  from The Center  Search Tips  

Based on Dr. Victor A. McKusick’s book Mendelian Inheritance in Man, this database includes information on human genes and genetic disorders.  It is updated daily and includes links to other resources.  Includes textual information and references; links to Medline citations, sequence records, and other related resources.  Most content is from 1998 to the present.  Some references date back to the early 20th century.

 
Pollution Abstracts   from CSA

Multidisciplinary database with 11,000+ titles, with over 8,000 titles in full-text.  It serves as the central resource for researchers at all levels in all markets.  Over 160 subjects areas are covered extensively including business and economics, health and medical, news and world affairs, technology, social sciences and more.

 
ProQuest Research Library   from ProQuest  

Indexing, abstracts and selected full text or full images of articles in a wide range of magazines and journals.  It includes general interest and news publications as well as selected scholarly journals.  Includes bibliographic citations and abstracts of periodical articles; some full text and full image articles.  Coverage varies by title with good coverage for late 1980's to present, some earlier coverage.

Science.gov is an interagency cooperative providing a unified search of the government’s scientific and technical information.  30 databases and over 1,700 web sites are included.  Material is selected by the following agencies: Departments of Agriculture, Commerce, Defense, Education, Energy, Health & Human Services, Interior as well as the Environmental Protection Agency, NASA, National Science Foundation, and the U.S. Government Printing Office.  Science.gov mainly provides citiations and in some cases abstracts.
