NCJRS Abstracts Database   from National Criminal Justice Reference Service  Search Tips  

Covers corrections, courts, crime prevention, criminal justice statistics, drugs and crime, international resources, juvenile justice, law enforcement, research and evaluation, and victims.  NCJRS is a collection of clearinghouses supporting all bureaus of the U.S. Department of Justice, Office of Justice Programs, as well as the Office of National Drug Control Policy.  Includes bibliographic citations and abstracts of Federal, state, and local government reports, books, research reports, journal articles, and unpublished research with occasional links to full text sources.  Early 1970's to present.

Criminal Justice Periodicals in ProQuest  from ProQuest  

Covers the social sciences, education, and humanities relating to criminal justice.  Includes corrections administration, law enforcement, social work, industrial security, drug rehabilitation, and criminal and family law.  Includes ASCII text, image, and Text+Graphics coverage for about 50 of the titles most frequently accessed by criminal justice researchers.  CJP also includes complete indexing and abstracts for another 140 relevant U.S. and international journals.  1981 to present.

Dissertations and Theses   from ProQuest  

This database contains records for more than 2 million doctoral dissertations and master's theses.  Also included is the full text content for nearly 900,000 dissertations.  Includes extensive coverage of North American graduate schools, with coverage of some European universities beginning in 1989.  Includes bibliographic record of dissertations written in the United Kingdom and Ireland from as far back as 1716, with full abstracts, for titles available from 1986 in 'ProQuest Dissertations and Theses.  A separate database contains the subset of Marquette University doctoral dissertations in full text.

 
HaPI: Health and Psychosocial Instruments  from Ovid  Search Tips  

Indexes articles with descriptions and analyses of assessment tools used in health and psychology.  Health and Psychosocial Instruments provides access to information on measurement instruments (i.e., questionnaires, interview schedules, checklists, index measures, coding schemes/manuals, rating scales, projective techniques, vignettes/scenarios, tests) in the health fields, psychosocial sciences, organizational behavior, and library and information science.  1985 to present, with many earlier measures.  VPN required if off-campus and also using RefWorks.

 
Historic Documents   from CQ Press  

Reviewing each year’s major events since 1972, Historic Documents reproduces official public statements; noteworthy court decisions; reports by governmental agencies, including some from the United Nations; special studies by public and private groups; and speeches by prominent figures.  The documents have introductions providing background, a summary, and indication of subsequent events.  The online version can be searched by keyword, title, and topic.  There is also a cumulative index.

 
Inter-University Consortium for Political and Social Research (ICPSR)  from I.C.P.S.R.  

Abstracts, longitudinal studies, project overviews, data collection instruments, and descriptions of variables found in the dataset.  Most datasets and documentation can be downloaded, from on campus computers, for research and personal use.  ICPSR holds a wealth of data from a number of sources.  Among them:

National Archive of Criminal Justice Data (NACJD)  from I.C.P.S.R.

ProQuest Central  from ProQuest  

Multidisciplinary database with 11,000+ titles, with over 8,000 titles in full-text.  It serves as the central resource for researchers at all levels in all markets.  Over 160 subjects areas are covered extensively including business and economics, health and medical, news and world affairs, technology, social sciences and more.

 
ProQuest Research Library   from ProQuest  

Indexing, abstracts and selected full text or full images of articles in a wide range of magazines and journals.  It includes general interest and news publications as well as selected scholarly journals.  Includes bibliographic citations and abstracts of periodical articles; some full text and full image articles.  Coverage varies by title with good coverage for late 1980's to present, some earlier coverage.

 
Social Sciences Citation Index   from ISI  

Included in Web of Science which combines Science Citation Index, Social Science Citation Index, and Arts and Humanities Citation Index in one source.  Indexes can be searched individually or combined.  Search by words in author, title, keyword, abstract, journal title and author affiliation fields.  A unique Cited Reference Search feature allows ‘forward’ searching by locating articles that have cited an older document.  VPN recommended for off-campus access.

 
Social Work Reference Library  from NASW Press  

Contains the full text of the most recent editions of: Encyclopedia of social work; Social work dictionary; and: Social work almanac.

 
Sociology (SAGE Full Text)  from CSA
