Using the Faceted Display

On the Left. . .

At the results screen, common characteristics (facets) of the results are displayed in the left-hand boxes. These boxes provide a breakdown of the results according to:

• Field where the search terms appear (Title, Author or Subject)
  
  
• Format of the item (books, DVDs, etc.).
  
  
• Date (by publication year)
  
  
• And more!

This detailed breakdown provides the opportunity to explore the results by selecting various combinations of characteristics. Want an author search? Click the Author facet in the Search Found In box. Want to see only DVDs? Click the DVD facet in the Format box. Undo the selection of any characteristic using the list across the top of the results.

On the Right. . .

An additional facet for modifying the search results is the Refine by Tag box located in the right hand column.

This box displays words appearing in the subject headings associated with the search results. The size of the word relates to the how frequently the word appears. Click on any relevant tag and immediately focus your results to records containing that word.
