New Interface

Turnitin has launched their new interface. Below are inks to videos demonstrating features of the new interface.

Turnitin offers two training sessions per day.  Check their daily schedule (Word doc) for times and session information.

NOTE: As of August 1, 2009 Turnitin will no longer support Internet Explorer versions earlier than version 7.0.  If your computer is set to receive automatic updates from Microsoft your version of IE should already be 7.0 or later.

The University Libraries are coordinating a subscription for campus-wide access to Turnitin, a plagiarism detection service.  The service compares submitted text against a database of millions of pages of previously submitted student papers, journal articles and freely accessible Internet sites.  Turnitin was the first (1996) plagiarism prevention system and is now widely used in over 50 countries and in thousands of high schools and universities.   Workshops for departments may be arranged on request.

If you have already created a Turnitin account you can login here.  If you do not have an account follow the instructions below:

Instructors who choose to use this service must do the following:

  • Obtain MU's Account ID and Account Password for their Department by registering with Keven Riggle, Library Information Technology Administrator for Turnitin, 288-3253 or e-mail
  • Create a New User at http://turnitin.com by clicking on the "new user" link just below the login boxes (e-mail/password)
  • Inform your students in class and on your syllabus of your requirement to submit course writing projects in electronic form and your intention to use Turnitin.  Students should be told that their papers will become a permanent part of the Turnitin.com database, but personally identifiable information will not be used or published and papers will not be used for any other purpose than checking for plagiarism (see Marquette's faculty start-up guide, below);
  • Describe and discuss in class your standards and sanctions regarding citations and attribution; and
