  • GIS.com - a portal to GIS information created by ESRI, a GIS software developer. 
  • GIS Internet Resources - pointers to GIS companies, associations, and government web pages as well as sources of software, data, publications, and services.
  • GIS Gateway - from the US Census Bureau

Software

  • ArcExplorer - a lightweight GIS data viewer from ESRI written in Java that is used to perform basic GIS functions (e.g., view, navigate, and query). Free download.  Also available ArcGIS Explorer and ArcWeb Explorer.  ESRI produces some of the most popular GIS software.
  • Geographic Resources Analysis Support System (GRASS) - open source software used for data management, image processing, graphics production, spatial modelling, and visualization of many types of data.
  • GIS Tools - clearinghouse for useful 3rd party data conversion tools for GIS, 3D & imagery.
  • USGS Digital Data Viewer - dlgv32 Pro, a limited-feature version of commercial Global Mapper

Technical Reports - search tools

  • Science Accelerator - developed and maintained by the Office of Scientific and Technical Information (OSTI), U. S. Department of Energy, uses a single query to search multiple science resources including Information Bridge, E-print Network, Science Conference Proceedings, DOE R&D Accomplishments, Energy Citations Database, DOE R&D Project Summaries, Federal R&D Project Summaries, DOE Patents, and Energy Files.
  • CiteSeer - a search engine and digital library that focuses primarily on the scientific literature in computer and information science.  Provides useful metadata including cited references, reference linking, related references,etc.
  • Energy Citations Database - bibliographic records for energy and energy-related scientific and technical information from the Department of Energy (DOE) and its predecessor agencies, the Energy Research & Development Administration (ERDA) and the Atomic Energy Commission (AEC).  Some full text documents available.
  • Information Bridge - provides free public access to full-text documents and bibliographic citations of Department of Energy (DOE) research report literature. Documents, primarily from 1994 forward, were produced by DOE, the DOE contractor community, and/or DOE grantees and include the areas of physics, chemistry, materials, biology, environmental sciences, energy technologies, engineering, computer and information science, renewable energy, and other topics of interest to DOE's mission.
  • NTIS - largest central resource for government-funded scientific, technical, engineering, and business related information; over 3 million publications covering over 350 subject areas.
  • NTRS: NASA Technical Reports Server - NASA aerospace information, domestic and international scientific & technical information (STI) pertinent to NASA's missions.
  • Science.gov - gateway to government science information allows searches across 30 databases and more than 1,700 science Web sites. Science.gov currently accesses over 47 million pages of government science information.  Some full text documents available.
  • Scientific & Technical Reports Collection (STINET) - DoD and other technical reports.  Some full text documents available.
  • TRIS Online - Transportation Research Information Services Database contains well over half a million records of references to books, technical reports, conference proceedings, journal articles and on-going research in the field of transportation.  Some full text documents available.
  • WorldWideScience - multilateral partnership to enable federated searching of national and international scientific databases.  Includes Technical Reports, journal literature and other.
