  • Statistical Abstract of the U.S. (US Census Bureau)
    Requires Adobe Acrobat Reader software to view. PC within the libraries already have Acrobat loaded.
  • County and City Data Book (US Census Bureau)
    Statistics in many subject areas for the counties and cities of the US.
  • State and Metropolitan Area Data Book (US Census Bureau)
    Statistics on social and economic conditions in the US at the state and metropolitan area levels.
  • The Dismal Scientist
    A commercial site (some parts are free) which provides current economic indicators, some for 170+ countries, at the national, state, and metro levels. In addition, it provides clear explanations and analysis of the data and their importance, in non-technical language. See especially the "Indicators" and "Data & Tools" sections.
  • FEDSTATS
    A-Z statistics and information from over 70 agencies within the Federal Government
  • The Economic Statistics Briefing Room
    Part of the official Whitehouse site maintained by the Office of the President.
  • The Social Statistics Briefing Room
    Part of the official Whitehouse site maintained by the Office of the President.
  • STAT-USA: Economic, Trade, Business Information
    Maintained by the U.S. Dept. of Commerce.  Parts of it are only available to Marquette users.
  • U.S. Census Bureau
    The official U.S. Census site, including current population and economic indicators.

International

  • Earthtrends (World Resources Institute) Free, but requires registration and Adobe Acrobat Reader.  Data tables and country profiles give access to world-wide data on biodiversity, economic indicators, energy and minerals, human development, etc., for a glimpse of the worldwide environment. Based on WRI's World Resources Report series.
  • Handbook of International Economic Statistics
    Published by the CIA. Includes statistics on agriculture, the environment, energy, trade, minerals and manufactured goods, as well as economic profiles for many countries.
  • World Population Information (US Census Bureau)
    Historical and forecast estimates of world population, data on fertility, mortality, contraceptive use and related demographic topics. Includes the World POPClock with up to the second simulations of world population, and World Vital Events per Time Unit.
  • World Factbook (CIA)
    Includes summary statistics for countries of the world.

Subscription databases

(accessible only to Marquette users.)
  • FactSearch Provides facts and statistics on current social, economic, political, environmental and health issues, as found in excerpts from newspapers, periodicals, newsletters and government documents.
  • Statistical Universe Index/abstracting service to a wide variety of statistical information from the U.S. government, state governments and private sources. Covers topics such as: demographics, crime, economics, health, education, international trade, labor, environment, energy, etc.
  • TableBase Tabular information (i.e. statistical and rank information, and raw figures). Subject emphasis is on business (companies, industries, products, countries and markets), but it also covers broader subject areas, such as trends and demographics.
