To find literary criticism, remember to search for books ABOUT a particular author, you will need to search Marqcat by SUBJECT HEADING.

Example: to search for books ABOUT Ramon del Valle-Inclan, go to Marqcat, click on SUBJECT HEADING and type in the last name first.

• Search UW-Milwaukee's online catalog
If Marquette's Libraries do NOT own a book that UW-Milwaukee's library owns, you could request an InfoPass from the Reference Desk in Marquette's Raynor Library.  With this completed form and your MU I.D. card you could check out the book from Univ. of Wisconsin - Milwaukee's library.

WorldCat is an online catalog of thousands of U.S. libraries; contains records to over 41 million items including books in hundreds of languages on thousands of topics.  Useful to search if you are looking to identify additional materials by or about a particular author.  Items not owned by Marquette's libraries can be requested via lnterLibrary Loan.

     Indexes to locate articles in scholarly journals:

• MLA Bibliography
Provides citations to articles, chapters, books and other materials dealing with literature and language.  Many nationalities are represented including Spanish and Latin and South American.  Excellent resource to use in beginning one's search for literary criticism from scholarly works.  Database begins with 1921.  No abstracts but there are links to full-text when available.  If Marquette Libraries do not own the items, you could request them via the libraries'InterLibrary Loan system.

• Hispanic American Periodicals Index
Contains references to articles dealing with various topics of Latin American topics both in the humanities and social sciences.  Articles may be in Spanish or English.  Very few of the articles are full-text in this database.  For journals that are not owned by Marquette University Libraries, use InterLibrary Loan.  Time coverage of this database is from 1975 to date.

• Bibliografía de la Literatura Española
Contains references to literary articles and books world-wide critiquing literature from Spain.  Database is searchable by keywords, author, or title.  No abstracts or full-text is provided; you will need to check Marqcat to see if Marquette Libraries own the item.  If not, you can request the item via Marquette Universities Libraries' InterLibrary Loan.  Time coverage of this database is from 1980 to date.

• Fuente Academica
Provides full text coverage to more than 150 scholarly, academic Spanish language journals from Latin American, South American and Spanish publishers.  All content is in Spanish and covers a wide variety of subjects including politics, history, literature and education.

• Arts and Humanities Citation Index
Provides citations to articles dealing with humanities including articles dealing with Spanish-Spanish American literature.  No abstracts or full-text provided; you will need to check Marqcat to see if Marquette Libraries own journal or source.  Database begins with 1980.

• Periodicals Index Online
Provides citations to articles dealing with humanities & social sciences.  Useful in searching for earlier articles (before 1995) for literary criticism or book reviews.  No abstracts are provided, however, some article listings contain the full-text.  For those article listings that are NOT full-text, you will need to search Marqcat to see if Marquette Libraries own the journals.

•  Historical Abstracts
Provides references to journal articles and books which deal with historical aspects of countries in Latin America. magazines.

• PAIS International
Provides references to journal articles, books, etc. which deal with public affairs of countries world-wide, magazines; some full text articles.

• Humanities in Proquest
Not a major source for locating literary criticism on Spanish and Spanish-American authors but it may offer a few articles of literary criticism.  Indexes scholarly journals and popular magazines; some full text articles.

• Ethnic Newswatch
Contains recent full-text of articles from Hispanic newspapers in the U.S.  Majority of Hispanic newspapers are in Spanish.
• Lexis-Nexis Academic
Contains recent full-text articles from Spanish newspapers/newswires around the world.  To get to within Lexis/Nexis, click on News option (in upper left hand corner), then change Select Sources box to Spanish Language News, Combined.  Includes El Pais from Spain, El Universal from Mexico and many others.
