The Annotated Cinderella

This site features an annotated version of the Perrault Cinderella with footnotes. Site is maintained by Heidi Anne Heiner, whose credentials or affiliation are not included. Please be aware that the her reliability is thereby questionable.


Article Databases

The following can help with issues that are psychological, sociological, cultural, or ethical in nature, including family dynamics, family roles, gender roles, and conformity.

JSTOR allows you to search the Journal of American Folklore, which contains 74 fulltext articles that mention Cinderella, such as: "Folktales Commonly Told American and Japanese Children: Ethical Themes of Omission and Commission."  Follow these steps to get there:
1. Go to JSTOR. Click on "Browse."
2. Choose the category "Language and Literature."
3. Click on "Journal of American Folklore."
4. Follow the link "Please see the information page..."
5. Click on "Search this journal" to the right of the journal cover image.
6. Type in "Cinderella" (without quotation marks) in the first box and hit the "Begin Search" button.  If you look further down on the page before searching, you'll see a journal list in which only the Journal of American Folklore is marked for inclusion in the search.
