Orientation

The Madrid pre-departure orientation (mandatory for Marquette students) will be held on Monday, November 10 from 5:00 to 7:00 pm in the Office of International Education Program Center (AMU 407). All students are also required to attend the general pre-departure orientation on either Thursday, November 13 or Saturday, November 15 in Raynor Memorial Library.

Passports

If you do not have a passport already, you should apply for one as soon as possible.  Information on how to obtain a passport can be found at www.travel.state.gov.

Visas

As a student studying in Madrid, you are required to obtain a student visa. This visa is a special stamp in your passport issued by the Spanish government, which allows you to enter and stay in Spain for longer than the typical tourist stay.  The visa application requires a number of supporting documents that can be time-consuming to obtain, therefore we recommend that you begin to collect these documents as soon as possible, even if you are still waiting for your passport to arrive.

See more details regarding obtaining your visa.

Housing

Housing is assigned on a first come, first served basis. Please indicate your housing preferences on the housing application and return it to the Office of International Education at Marquette University by the indicated deadline.  You must also e-mail your preferences as an attachement to Dr. Sanchez de la Calle, Resident Director. Please be sure of your preferences before submitting your housing application as preferences cannot be changed once you have submitted the application.  Placements will be made according to the date of receipt of your e-mail or your housing form, whichever comes first.

Class Registration

You will not be required to register for next semester’s courses before your departure.  This will be done for you before the commencement of your semester in Spain.

For students from Marquette University: you are required to meet with your academic advisor this semester and you must turn in a completed and signed registration card to your college as required.

For students from other universities: check with your study abroad advisor for the specific abroad class registration procedures of your home university.

Flights

Students in the Marquette en Madrid program are strongly encouraged to fly on the designated group flight, but are responsible for booking their own flights. Students arriving the morning of September 2 will be met by the resident director.  Please see your handbook for more information regarding arrival.
