New shoes for Father Wild

Marquette President Robert Wild, S.J., can now accessorize his clerics with a patriotic punch — red, white and blue Allen-Edmonds wingtips.

John Stollenwerk, chairman of Allen-Edmonds Shoe Corp. and university trustee, presented the “presidential” shoes to commemorate Father Wild’s 10th anniversary as president. Just a handful of pairs of the model have been produced and at least two pairs went to presidents: George W. Bush has a set in his closet.

Stollenwerk unveiled the gift at the President’s Picnic, a gathering of university friends, neighbors and civic leaders who this year celebrated Marquette’s 125th
anniversary and Father Wild’s 10th anniversary in one evening. In presenting the shoes, Stollenwerk said Father Wild “has led our university to the most successful years in its 125-year history.”

Campus marked Father Wild’s anniversary earlier this summer with an ice cream social featuring Oreo Cookie treats, Father Wild’s favorite flavor.
