1980-1989

1980

Joan T. Kuerschner, Bus Ad ’80, opened Geneva Hardware and Design LLC in Lake Geneva, Wis., with her daughter, Christine, who is pursuing an M.B.A. at Marquette. Geneva Hardware and Design sells door and cabinet hardware, bathroom hardware and plumbing fixtures, decorative tile and home accessories.

1981

Brian A. Kahn, Sp ’81, was promoted from senior production manager to director of production management for Showtime Sports and Event Programming in New York.

1982

Michael J. Gonring, Law ’82, was announced Lawyer of the Year by the Milwaukee Bar Association. He was recognized for his commitment to pro bono services. He practices at the Milwaukee office of Quarles & Brady LLP.

1984

Jeffrey A. Hoffmann, Arts ’84, was promoted to lieutenant for the Chicago Police Department and is assigned to the Prairie District – 021.

1985

Brian T. Hodous, Bus Ad ’85, resigned from Cadbury Schweppes in London, England, and accepted the position of chief customer officer for Activision Publishing Inc. He and his wife, Michele (McGuire) Hodous, H Sci ’85, are relocating to Santa Monica, Calif.

Dr. Richard J. McGowan, Grad ’85, professor of religion and philosophy at Butler University, recently served as director of the Butler University Undergraduate Research Conference. The conference brings together approximately 600 students from more than 30 Midwest colleges and universities to share learning and experiences.

Capt. John P. Samuels, Sp ’85, Wisconsin Army National Guard, Infantry, mobilized to support Operation Iraqi Freedom. He expects to return sometime after August 2008. He leaves his wife, Maria, and their four children to care for their home, two dogs and a rabbit.

1986

Jeffrey J. Altenburg, Arts ’86, was named Assistant District Attorney of the Year by the Wisconsin District Attorneys Association. He has been a prosecutor for 10 years in Milwaukee County and was recognized for dedication to the community and the profession.

Scott M. Franklin, Bus Ad ’86, is a founding partner of Six Degrees Capital Management, an alternative investment management company in Chicago that specializes in investments in structured products, including asset-backed securities, collateralized debt obligations, intellectual property streams, commercial loans and real estate.

1987

James M. Hackney, PT ’87, successfully defended his doctoral dissertation, “Preservation of Proprioceptive Sensitivity in Running in Anterior Cruciate Ligament Reconstructed Subjects,” and earned a doctorate in kinesiology from the University of Minnesota. He is an assistant professor of physical therapy at Missouri State University in Springfield, Mo.

Michael T. Jakubowski, Sp ’87, finished his first season as the public address announcer for the Marquette Golden Eagles men’s basketball team, taught the spring-semester class Television Production and Direction for Marquette’s Department of Broadcast and Electronic Communication, and was a road manager for Los Straitjackets 2007 Rock en Español Tour starring Big Sandy.

1988 Reunion Year

Patrick T. Murphy-Racey, Jour ’88, was ordained a permanent deacon in the Dioceses of Knoxville in June.

Lt. Col. Joel T. Schiro, USMC, Arts ’88, assumed command of Marine Wing Communications Squadron 38 at Marine Corps Air Station Miramar in San Diego, Calif., in May. He recently returned from deployment to Iraq.

1989

Michael A. Baxendale, Comm ’89, introduced a panel discussion concerning the future of FM talk radio at the 10th Annual Talker’s Magazine New Media Seminar in New York in June.

Robert A. Schneider, Comm ’89, is director of identity and access management with Chicago-based IT consulting firm, Hyper X Systems. Previously he was a system architect with Paragon Development Systems, Oconomowoc, Wis. He lives with his wife, Mary (Vespalec), Eng ’88, and their two children in Brookfield, Wis.
