Game-time soundtrack

Above: The team en route to Boise for the NCAA Championship matchup against Utah State last year. Below: Johnson-Odom and Cadougan on campus last week.

Before a recent game, while the rest of the men’s basketball team was warming up, Darius Johnson-Odom ran over to the Bradley Center DJ to request a song. Joe Fulce has converted part of his dorm room at Humphrey Hall into a mini-recording booth. Several of the players, including Fulce, Maurice Acker and Jimmy Butler, write and produce their own music. And whether they’re wandering campus or en route to a game, you often see the men’s basketball players with headphones glued to their ears.

So what tops the list of favorites for this music-loving group? We asked the players what they listen to while getting revved up for a game, and here are some of their picks.

Lazar Hayward: “Empire State of Mind” by Jay-Z and “Who’s Real” by Jadakiss

Joe Fulce: “Boogie on Reggae Woman” by Stevie Wonder and “My Old School” by Steely Dan

Jimmy Butler: “One Time” by Justin Bieber

Dwight Buycks: “Basketball” by Lil Bow Wow and “The Way We Ball” by Lil’ Flip

David Cubillan: “Hasta Abajo” by Don Omar featuring Daddy Yankee and “Guasa Guasa” by Tego Calderon

Junior Cadougan: “Party in the USA” by Miley Cyrus

We don’t know what Coach Buzz Williams listens to, but from the looks of this dance, the sound of a Marquette win is music to his ears.
