Friday Photo: Double take

Our usual Friday Photo gets a painterly twist: A Marquette Magazine reader was so taken with an archival photo of Rev. Thomas Stemper, S.J., that ran in the spring issue that she "simply had to paint it."

Artist Diana Grosso previously worked at Marquette as an administrative assistant in the College of Professional Studies, as well as other departments on campus. An oil painter who specializes in character studies, Grosso especially loves images that highlight the relationship between humans and animals. She is married to Rev. Andrew Grosso, Grad '04.

Here is the caption that ran with the original photo: With two short bursts on his whistle, Rev. Thomas Stemper, S.J., let the squirrels know that lunch was served. He went through 10 pounds of nuts and five pounds of bird seed each week feeding squirrels, rabbits and birds on campus.
