Photo by Matt Dixon, Comm '10

Students mingle on Central Mall during this year's Welcome Back Picnic.

To be sure, the Class of 2014 is a talented bunch. Here's a look at the numbers behind the nearly 1,950 freshmen who recently made Marquette their home.

380 legacy students, carrying on a proud Marquette family tradition

381 trailblazers — the first in their family to attend college

51 valedictorians

106 in Marquette's honors program

26 average ACT score

39 states represented (and new international undergraduate students hail from 16 countries)

9,700 miles traveled by the most far-flung new student — from Jakarta, Indonesia, to Milwaukee

52.5 percent are female, maintaining the slightly female edge in Marquette's student body

Looking at these stats I wonder if I could have made it itno MU today. I'd be interested to see comparable stats for the Class of 2004, 1994 and 1984.

While this information is interesting, a prospective student recently asked us, "what is the percent of Catholic and Christian students as well as other denominations in the freshmen class at Marquette?"  As a Catholic, Jesuit university this diversity is very likely a point  of interest for other prospective students.

William, information for the freshman class that started in August has not yet been compiled. But 50 percent of entering freshman in fall 2009 identified themselves as Catholic, and another 13 percent identified themselves as Christian. Marquette's Office of Institutional Research and Assessment is a great source of information: http://www.marquette.edu/oira/fresh.shtml.

Hope this helps!
