More than 200 future nurses pledged their commitment to the healing profession at a "blessing of the hands" ceremony on Oct. 3 at the Church of the Gesu — stating their commitment to nursing, to Marquette and what it means to be a Marquette nurse.

The students are pledging their commitment to the profession of nursing at a time when there is a nursing shortage throughout the United States and the Bureau of Labor Statistics estimates the need for 581,500 additional nurses from 2008 to 2018.
