Herbert V. Kohler, Jr.Fashion show raises funds to rebuild Philippine communities

The Bayanihan Student Organization had one objective for its 10th annual fall fashion show: raise money for Gawad Kalinga, a nonprofit rebuilding communities in the Luzon area of the Philippines that have been destroyed by natural disaster and poverty.

Students modeled vintage clothing and at the end of the night celebrated a mission accomplished with $9,000 raised for their cause. The fashion show was just one of the events students planned to support Gawad Kalinga.

“We believe it is important to teach others about Filipino culture and to also give back to it and help the Philippines in an active way,” says Terri Santarromana, a senior nursing student.

One of 230 student organizations, the Bayanihan Student Organization helps students learn about and celebrate Filipino culture.
