Marquette Moment
Golden Eagles in the Groove
Marquette athletes, 126 of them, teamed up to participate in the annual bowling tournament. Each student raised at least $20 in pledges from family and friends.
While these bowlers are more familiar with making goals, birdies, sets and dunks than finessing the 7-10 split, competition is competition. In a contest pitting Marquette student-athletes against each other — volleyball vs. soccer vs. golf vs. track vs. basketball — on the level playing hardwood of alleys one through 12 at the Annex, strikes were celebrated and spares scoffed.
During a morning of crashing pins, the student-athlete tournament to benefit Big Brothers Big Sisters of Racine and Kenosha raised $3,241. Then filled with the thrill of victory or thirst for retribution, the bowlers advanced to the second event, dodge ball.
Every athlete participates in service activities. It is the Athletics Department’s commitment that as coaches work with students to sharpen their skills, they also teach them to give back to the community.
