Hometown: Brookfield, Wis. Majors: Political Science and International Affairs. What’s next: Electoral politics or volunteering abroad. Ambitions: A career in domestic and international public policy, working at least one electoral cycle and returning to Africa to do development work. What kept her busy at Marquette: So much, including Midnight Run, College Democrats, Ubuntu, Freshman Orientation, International Marquette Action Program, Marquette Action Program, Les Aspin Center internship, Hunger Task Force and Amnesty International. Guilty pleasure: “Eating Ben & Jerry’s Chubby Hubby Ice Cream while watching West Wing.” Marquette’s impact: “I have this passion to make a difference, and more than that, the confidence in myself that it is possible.” Advice to freshmen: “Be open to everything about your college experience. Take advantage of all of the opportunities Marquette has to offer. You never know who you will meet or what passion you may uncover.” Weirdest Marquette moment: “I participated in the Les Aspin Center’s program in Kenya and Tanzania, and one night I was in bed and I heard a pounding on the door. I was already wrapped up in my mosquito nets, so I just clenched my eyes shut and tried my hardest to fall asleep. The next day I was told that it was baboons running up and down our hallway!” Marquette moment she’ll never forget: Working with youth in the township of Nyanga through Marquette’s South Africa Service Learning Program. “My last day with them was by far the most memorable day of my Marquette experience — the children were hugging me and crying, and those that struggled in English were asking others how to say ‘I love you’ and ‘I’ll miss you’ in English.”
