, the house lights in the Alumni Memorial Union’s Monaghan Ballroom went down, and the center-stage lights came up on Douglas D. Kelley, Bus Ad ’79 and president of the Marquette University Alumni Association. “Good evening,” Kelley said, “and welcome to Marquette University’s 2007 Alumni National Awards dinner.”
Following an invocation by the Marquette University Gospel Choir and dinner, six distinguished alumni were presented with their awards by Marquette President Robert A. Wild, S.J., and celebrated by family, friends and members of the university community. A special night, indeed.
At the end of the evening’s festivities, Father Wild said, “I am in awe of the success of Marquette alumni and the care that they have for our human family.”
Upon accepting their awards, this year’s Alumni Awards recipients told the 400-plus gathered in their honor a little about their lives, loves, hopes and dreams — some of which we’ve excerpted here for you. |
