Board Elects New Chair
In 1909 Marquette became the first Catholic coeducational university in the world. In 2006 the university celebrated the naming of a woman to chair the Board of Trustees.
 Mary Ellen Stanek, Arts ’78, and her husband, Scott, Arts ’77 and Dent ’82, share a connection to Marquette that few other families can match — family members hold 16 Marquette degrees and another three members are current Marquette students. This year Stanek claimed another distinction when she was elected chair of the Board of Trustees, the first woman in university history to hold the title.
In making the announcement, Marquette President Robert Wild, S.J., lauded Stanek’s professional achievements and dedicated philanthropic service throughout the Milwaukee area. “She is an outstanding ambassador for Marquette, living our mission in every aspect of her life,” he said.
Stanek is managing director and director of asset management for Robert W. Baird & Co., where she also serves as president of Baird Funds. She joined the university board in 1999 and was elected vice chair in 2003.
