Teach Someone to Fish
As part of Mission Week, 75 campus organizations will
each decorate a 2-foot by 4-foot wooden fish in a way that
captures Marquette's mission of forming men and women for
others. As an ancient symbol of Christianity, the fish
reminds us that we are a community in service of the wider
world. In addition to celebrating the university's
commitment to excellence, faith, leadership and service,
some of the fish will also serve as drop-off points for new
or like-new children's books, which will be collected and
distributed to the Next Door Foundation, in cooperation with
Circle K and Students Enhancing Education.
The three groups whose fish best represent the mission of Marquette will receive $150 each to be donated to non-profit organizations (on- or off-campus) that reflect values similar to those of Marquette. The fish will be judged by Robert A. Byrd Jr., Arts '80, a member of Marquette's 1977 national championship basketball team and founder and president of Bridging the Gap Learning Center and Bridging the Gap Golf Training Facility in Milwaukee; Sheryl Leonard-Schneck, Med Tech '86, president of the Marquette University Alumni Association; and, Tom Warden, Eng '94, and current president of the College of Engineering Alumni Association.
During the week, these Mission Fish will be displayed
throughout campus, to remind all of us that our commitment
to Marquette's mission is to be expressed in service to all
of God's people.
10% off religious and spiritual books at the BookMarq
The BookMarq will be offering a 10% discount on all religious and spiritual books from the trade book department for the entire Mission Week. Faculty and staff who receive a 10% discount in the store already will receive an additional 10% off on Religious and Spiritual books.
Stars of Excellence
Honor those members of the campus community that you
consider examples of Marquette's excellence by distributing
"Stars of Excellence." Congratulate them, thank them and let
them know how they have affected you. As you distribute your
stars in appreciation of students, faculty and staff, notice
how that light of excellence grows when it is affirmed by
others.
