Making the Mission Our Own
All individuals and organizations of the university are
encouraged to take initiative and engage in a creative act
of service on this day. What can you do to further the
mission of Marquette? Some ideas include:
- Write letters or e-mails of appreciation to
individuals or departments who help you in your work or
whose work you admire.
- Contribute an hour of your day to read stories in a
neighborhood school.
- Hold a departmental or residence hall prayer service,
recalling the values that animate Marquette.
- Call a retired employee of the university or a former
teacher to express your appreciation for his or her
contribution.
- Volunteer your services to the Midnight Run or
another campus service program.
- Contact the Office
of Student Development to sign up for Hunger
Cleanup in the spring.
- Introduce yourself to someone sitting alone in the
AMU
or another campus building.
- Plan an activity that puts your office, organization
or residence hall in touch with the surrounding
neighborhood.
- Put the topic "How are we living out the mission and
values of Marquette?" on the agenda of your next staff or
floor meeting.
- Choose an article on one of the university's core
values -- excellence, faith, leadership and service -- to
discuss with colleagues over lunch.
- Bring someone candy and a card, noting their
contribution to the mission of Marquette.
- Ask another student or university employee how you
can help her or him today.
- Contact University
Ministry or the Center
for Ignatian Spirituality to find out about what they
do and how you can participate.
- Spend 10 minutes praying for others in St.
Joan of Arc Chapel or The
Chapel of The Holy Family.
