About the eMPN

The eMPN for the Federal Stafford Loan is a promissory note that is signed online. One eMPN is valid for up to 10 years. Before filling out the eMPN at the Direct Loan Promissory Note Web site, you will need to collect some basic information in advance. The eMPN must be completed in one sitting. An eMPN cannot be saved and completed at a later time.

Steps for receiving and completing the Stafford Loan eMPN:

  1. Students must first accept the Stafford loan on CheckMarq
  2. Students will be notified by e-mail that an eMPN is available to sign online. Attempting to sign the eMPN before receiving notification that an eMPN is available will result in an error message
  3. Before filling out the eMPN, it is important to collect some basic information. Download and print the eMPN worksheet to use as a guide. (Optional)
  4. After completing the worksheet, visit https://studentloans.gov/ to sign the eMPN

The worksheet can be kept for personal records. Do not send the worksheet to Marquette University.
