"Fluent in Faith illustrates perfectly that discerning one’s vocation is a life-long process, requiring a heart finely tuned to the voice of God. Mary McCormick’s extraordinary story should inspire each of us to listen very carefully and conjure up the courage to follow unexpected callings close to home or to the other side of the world."
Marie Dennis
Co-President, Pax Christi International
Former Director, Maryknoll Office for Global Concerns

"Some people look but others actually see. Some wish while others act. Here is a story of an extraordinary ordinary woman, a woman of uncommon common sense. She is ample proof of the fact that God can do marvelous things through those who trust. It’s a beautiful account of the kind of life many of us wish we might live but few do, because we have good intentions but little faith. This story has the power to disturb anyone willing to be disturbed; but those who want a quiet life should not start reading!"
Anthony J. Gittins, CSSp, PhD
Professor of Theology and Culture, Catholic Theological Union, Chicago

"As I researched my book, The Missionary Movement in American Catholic History, I found Mary McCormick to be an excellent example of a Papal Volunteer (PAVLA) who made a lasting impact with and among the people she served. Her story provides further insight into the role of lay missionaries, a movement that began to grow by the late 1940s."
Angelyn Dries, OSF
