Concerts: From the most successful, award-winning musicians to local student bands, the Concerts Commission brings a mix of music to Marquette. Country, hip-hop, bluegrass, jazz, Indy-rock, mainstream, underground -- with the continuously changing trends, we want a commission who loves music an stays informed on MU's interest for artists. Concerts require work with agents, contracts, and a detailed planning process, so the commission should be enthusiastic about music and ready to work to bring the best performances to campus.
Excursions: The Excursions Commission provides fun activities off campus for students at Marquette. With a range of programs hosted in our own Milwaukee, it gives students the opportunity to familiarize themselves with Milwaukee's resources and recreational events while expanding their knowledge of Wisconsin's largest city. Beyond Milwaukee, Excursions also develops programs involving sporting events as well as tapping into the array of options available in nearby Chicago. This commission needs creative energy to compose new, exciting events for students to escape campus and explore the surrounding area.
Films: Presenting recent blockbuster hits, classic films, and artsy independent flicks, the Films Commission brings movies to Marquette that will appeal to the masses. This commission works closely with other student organizations to co-sponsor movies and augment various established programs. Themed film festivals can be scheduled throughout the year based on student interest. As students spend relaxing Friday and Saturday nights savoring popcorn and soda at the Varsity theater, we want a commission who appreciates a variety of films and who wants to spread that enthusiasm across campus.
Speakers: Stimulating and influential speakers are an established tradition on college campuses as they serve to extend learning beyond the classroom. The Speakers Commission provides insight to many inspirational, controversial, and fascinating issues that are affecting our world. By contribution to the success of various specialty weeks/months at Marquette, the commission programs lectures pertaining to specific, relevant topics at hand. From sports stars to politicians to humanitarians and survival stories, speakers wants to reach out to all interests at MU. Come on board and make a difference.
Senior Week: The Senior Week Commission develops and implements programs for graduating students and their families during Senior Weekend (December) and Senior Week (May). The programs include many traditional events while incorporating new, creative activities for the new graduates to enjoy. The commissioner will be responsible for selecting, training, and managing a team of about 20 volunteer students and overseeing an executive committee. It is essential to help graduates have a memorable depart from their college life as they transition into "real adulthood."
