Marquette University's Intercollegiate Athletics received renewed certification from the NCAA in August 2005. The NCAA’s review of Marquette’s 1997 self-study found the university’s athletics operations to be in “substantial conformity” with the operating principles of the NCAA and resulted in certification of the athletics program in 1998. Upon review of a self-study conducted during 2004, the NCAA found that the university remained in “substantial conformity” with the operating principles.
The NCAA requires re-evaluation once every 10 years. The purpose is to encourage athletics programs to look closely at their operations within the parameters specified by the NCAA. The program also is intended to open intercollegiate athletics operations to the university community and the general public, and to help ensure integrity in intercollegiate athletics operations. The full text of Marquette's self-study is included here.
