Self-study Overview
Beginning in early spring 2004 and concluding early in 2005, an institutional self-assessment of Marquette’s Intercollegiate Athletics was conducted focusing on three operational areas:
-
Governance and Commitment to Rules Compliance,
which considers institutional oversight of athletics and
athletics rules compliance;
-
Academic Standards, which considers student
athlete admission, academic support and performance, graduation
rates, and class scheduling; and
-
Equity and Welfare, which considers gender
equity and ethnic diversity of student athletes and athletic
personnel, and the fair treatment of student athletes.
Subcommittees in these three areas, with guidance from a steering committee, collected and analyzed data and prepared responses to questions from the NCAA related to these areas. The NCAA’s questions examine institutional progress since the initial certification in 1998 as well as current status. The results of the self-assessment were submitted to the NCAA and, upon review, resulted in recertification of the athletics program.
