Marquette Advances in U.S. News & World Report College Rankings

Marquette University ranks 81st among the top national universities in the 2007 edition of America's Best Colleges, released today by U.S. News & World Report. Marquette was listed among 248 U.S. universities that offer undergraduate majors as well as master's and doctoral degrees, the premier category of institutions ranked by the publication. Marquette has steadily risen in this annual listing, ranking 85th last year and 90th two years ago.

“Marquette’s rise in the rankings is a credit to our faculty and staff who live our Jesuit, Catholic ideals by conveying a passion for enhancing the world we live in through teaching our students to be leaders of tomorrow and contributing to the global community through research and service to others,” said Provost Madeline Wake.

Marquette was once again one of only 25 universities recognized for service learning under “Programs to Look For.” Service learning programs involve volunteer work in the community as an instructional strategy, enriching the classroom experience. Approximately 900 Marquette students from 55 to 65 university courses are placed at 100 to 125 community agencies each semester. From building bridges in Central America and participating in local Habitat for Humanity efforts to providing healthcare to underserved communities locally and abroad, Marquette students and faculty learn from their active participation in the community.

The university is 50th on the list of national universities rated as “Great Schools, Great Prices,” which is based on three factors: (1) percentage of students receiving grants based on need (52%); (2) average cost after receiving need-based grants ($22,071); and (3) average discount from total cost (34%).
