2. Haggerty is hosting Wisconsin Artists Biennial 2007 exhibition

The Haggerty Museum of Art is hosting the Wisconsin Artists Biennial 2007, an exhibition of works in all media by Wisconsin painters and sculptors, through July 15. This juried exhibition features new works from more than 60 Wisconsin artists chosen from more than 400 entrants.

The Wisconsin Artists Biennial 2007 is coordinated by Wisconsin Painters and Sculptors, who invited Wisconsin artists to submit works created since 2003. They were selected by Marianne Richter, curator of the Union League Club of Chicago.

3. Historical society extends Marquette history exhibit

The Milwaukee Historical Society exhibit honoring the 125th anniversary of Marquette University has been extended until late August. The exhibit, at 910 N. Old World 3rd St., is featuring “Marquette University: 125 Years of Faith and Learning in Action.”

4. Discounted Six Flags Great America, Hurricane Harbor tickets available

As a benefit to Marquette faculty, staff and their families, Human Resources has tickets on sale for Six Flags Great America and Six Flags Hurricane Harbor at a greatly reduced rate. Tickets are $34 each (a savings of more than $22 compared to a single-day gate price).

5. Marquette Interchange highlights for the week of July 2

• Due to Summerfest and the July 4 holiday freeway and local street closures will be minimal and the contractor will not work July 4-9.

• Daytime pile-driving and demolition work will occur on southbound I-43 east of 11th Street from Wisconsin Avenue to the south. This will be the last of this type of work in close to the university.

• Day activities will continue west of Straz Tower for at least another week.

• Night and daytime demolition work will resume July 9, south of Tory Hill.

• Tory Hill/ Clybourn from 10th to 16th Street will be open with a single lane in each direction.

• St. Paul from 5th to 13th streets is closed in both directions Monday and Tuesday July 2 and 3, 2 to 6 a.m.

• Canal Street from 6th Street to Emmber Lane will have eastbound lane restrictions from 6:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. Monday and Tuesday, July 2 and 3.

• Sidewalks on the south side of Wisconsin Avenue, east and west of 11th Street, are now open. The Law School and O’Hara Hall may again be accessed from the north.

• City street lights will be removed on 11th Street, south of Wisconsin Avenue. The city will install new street lights on the new roadway in a month or two. On an interim basis, the university will determine if existing lighting is sufficient. Ultimately, additional campus identity lighting will be added to the area.

• University work will begin later this summer on a new retaining wall and modifications, including new sidewalks and campus identification elements, to Lot R behind Straz Tower. 10th Street at Michigan will become the gateway to the university from the south later next year.

• Eastbound traffic on Wisconsin Avenue between 8th and 10th streets has shifted back to the eastbound roadway by the streetscaping project. In addition, 9th Street has been closed at Wisconsin Avenue. It is open from Wells, but patrons entering at Wells will have to turn around and exit to Wells. Westbound traffic will be shifted to the south half of Wisconsin Avenue soon.

•  Traffic on Clybourn/Tory Hill between 8th and 11th streets has been temporarily gone back to one lane in each direction. After Summerfest, July 9, this section of roadway will close in both directions for the rest of the month to allow the contractor to safely demolish the old southbound portions of I-43 over Tory Hill and to complete foundation work for the new sections of southbound I-43.
