1. Help welcome freshmen for Arrival Day
The Office of Residence Life is seeking volunteers to help welcome new students to campus on Arrival Day for freshmen, Wednesday, Aug. 20. Volunteers can serve as greeters, assist with administrative tasks or help students move into their rooms. There is no minimum time commitment.

2. Register for New Folks Convocation
All faculty, staff and administrators hired after Aug. 20, 2007, are invited to New Folks Convocation on Monday, Aug. 18. The day-long program, which is sponsored by the Office of Mission and Identity, is designed to give newer employees a greater understanding of Marquette University as a Catholic, Jesuit university and an appreciation of the values that animate our students and our fellow workers.
The program begins with 8 a.m. registration in the Lynch Lounge outside the AMU ballrooms and concludes with a wine and cheese reception at the Jesuit Residence.
Register with University Special Events at 8-7431 by Wednesday, Aug. 13.
3. D2L unavailable Aug. 12
D2L, the university’s course management system, will be unavailable due to maintenance from 7 a.m. to 1 p.m. tomorrow, Aug. 12.
4. College of Professional Studies hosting information session
The College of Professional Studies will host an undergraduate information session for prospective adult students Tuesday, Aug. 19, from 5:45 to 7 p.m. in Cudahy 414. The session will cover the accelerated bachelor’s degree programs, the application and admission process, financial aid options and information about the Saturday, weeknight and online course offerings.

5. OIE International Friendship Program looking for participants
The Marquette International Friendship Program is a new initiative designed by the Office of International Education to create year-long “friendship matches” between Marquette’s international students and Marquette and Milwaukee community members. The intent is to encourage community friends to meet with students once a month to learn about each other’s culture and enjoy leisure activities. The program does not involve home-stays. Families and individuals are encouraged to apply.
Participants are needed for the 2008-2009 academic year. The application form is available online and at the Office of International Education, AMU 425. Applications should be e-mailed to Blake Ward, international marketing and communications coordinator, by Friday, Aug. 22.

6. Haggerty Museum holding Lunchtime Learning sessions
The Patrick & Beatrice Haggerty Museum of Art will hold Lunchtime Learning sessions in connection with the exhibition Biographical Landscape: The Photography of Stephen Shore, 1969-1979. James Brozek, photographer for the Marquette School of Dentistry, will present “Photography and the Work Environment” from noon to 1 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 14. On Thursday, Aug. 21, Wally Mason, director of the museum, will present a gallery talk and walk-through of the Shore exhibition from noon to 1 p.m.

7. Raynor obtains Vatican Secret Archives documents
Raynor Memorial Libraries’ Special Collections has acquired a limited edition of Processus Contra Templarios, a leather-bound portfolio of facsimile Latin documents from the Vatican Secret Archives.
The portfolio contains documents from the 1308 trial of the Templar Knights, a topic in popular fiction since their role in The DaVinci Code. The portfolio also contains Pope Clement V’s personal notes on the trial and his newly-discovered acquittal parchment. Marquette University’s limited edition is one of only six currently housed in United States libraries; it is expected to be a resource for several undergraduate and graduate classes this fall.

8. Mass for the Solemnity of the Assumption of Mary is Friday
Campus Ministry will hold a Mass for the Solemnity of the Assumption of Mary, a holy day of obligation, Friday, Aug. 15, at noon in the Chapel of the Holy Family, AMU.
9. Soccer teams kick off 2008 season with Fan Fest
The Marquette soccer teams will host their second annual Fan Fest to kick off the 2008 season Saturday, Aug. 16, at 4:30 p.m. at Valley Fields. Admission is free and includes free food from Qdoba, interactive skills stations and opportunities to receive player autographs. Fan Fest will also feature two exhibition games, with the women taking on Wisconsin at 5 p.m. and the men taking part in a Blue vs. Gold exhibition game at 7:05 p.m.

10. Register for a Marquette team for Brigg’s & Al’s Run & Walk
The 31st annual Brigg’s & Al’s Run & Walk for Children’s Hospital will be held Saturday, Sept. 20. To join the general Marquette team or other Marquette teams for the three- or five-mile run/walk, register online by Thursday, Sept. 11, at 5 p.m. Search “MU” and use the password “gomarquette.”

11. Department of Performing Arts announces 2008-09 theatre season
The Department of Performing Arts has announced its 2008-09 theatre season, beginning with Moon Over Buffalo Sept. 25 to Oct. 5. Additional performances will include The Cherry Orchard, The BFG, Heidi Chronicles, Spitfire Grill, and student-driven senior capstone projects.

12. PrintWise printers to change for fall semester
The campus PrintWise printers will be replaced with new Canon equipment prior to the start of the fall semester. Users will have more operational and payment options, including duplexing at reduced cost and free scanning.

13. TIAA-CREF representatives available for financial counseling
TIAA-CREF consultants will be available for one-on-one financial counseling sessions from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Wednesday, Aug. 13, Thursday, Aug. 14, and Friday, Aug. 15, in AMU 228.

14. Marquette Interchange highlights for the week of Aug. 11
• The connector ramp from southbound I-43 to eastbound I-794 opened Saturday morning, Aug. 9. Only two connector ramps, from westbound I-794 to north- and southbound I-43, are still closed; they will open soon.
• Michigan Street between 10th and 16th streets and Tory Hill and Clybourn will fully re-open Saturday, Aug. 16. Some minor intersection work remains at 13th Street, but there should be no more long-term closures.
• There are no closures scheduled for the Aug. 15 weekend. Very few overnight closures will be required for the rest of the project.
