1. Undergraduates to present research at McNair symposium

Undergraduate students participating in the Ronald E. McNair Scholars Program this summer will present their research at the 20th Annual Undergraduate Research Symposium July 28 and 29. Poster presentations will be held Wednesday, July 28, from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. in AMU 163.

Oral presentations will be held from 1:30 p.m. until 3:40 p.m. Thursday, July 29, throughout Cudahy Hall (locations will be provided inside the main entrance). A reception for presenters, faculty mentors and guests will follow in the Cudahy Hall Atrium from 3:30 p.m. until 5 p.m. The event is free and open to the public.

2. Help welcome new students on Arrival Day

The Office of Residence Life is looking for volunteers to help welcome new students to campus on Arrival Day, Wednesday, Aug. 25. Volunteers can serve as greeters, assist with administrative tasks or help students move into their rooms. Volunteers are welcome to help for less than an hour, several hours or all day. Contact Rick Arcuri, associate dean for administration, at 8-7208 by Aug. 18 to volunteer or for more information.

3. Bursar, Registrar and CheckMarq unavailable during upgrade

CheckMarq, the student information system, will be unavailable from 8 p.m. Friday, July 30, through noon Monday, Aug. 2, for a maintenance upgrade.

During this time all electronic processing by the Office of the Bursar, such as petty cash reimbursement, payment processing, change processing and departmental deposit processing, will be unavailable.

The Office of the Registrar will not be able to process transcript requests while CheckMarq is unavailable. Transcript requests submitted during this time will be processed after the upgrade is complete.

Marquette Central will also be unable to provide student account information during this time. 

This upgrade will have minor navigation changes and will not change the way CheckMarq is used.

4. 16th Street between Wisconsin and Clybourn to close

16th Street between Wisconsin Avenue and Clybourn will be closed Sat., July 31, due to construction on the Discovery Learning Complex. A detour route will be posted near the affected streets. For more information, contact the Office of the University Architect.

5. Parking permits now on sale

Parking permits for the 2010-11 academic year are now on sale. To park in the lot of their choice, students must purchase permits online, since permits will not be sold in the parking office until Monday, Aug. 30.

Raynor Memorial Libraries offers summer reading recommendations in its July issue of Ex Libris. The occasional newsletter highlights contemporary fiction and non-fiction selections from the Browsing Collection, alumni books, literary prizewinners and more.
