1. RSVP deadline for Alpha Sigma Nu event is today

President Robert A. Wild, S.J., will be honored Sunday, March 27, at the annual awards brunch of the Father Danihy Alumni Club of Alpha Sigma Nu.

Alpha Sigma Nu, the Jesuit Honor Society, will honor Father Wild as Alumnus of the Year at a Mass, brunch and award presentation beginning at 10 a.m. in the AMU Chapel of the Holy Family.

Cost is $22 per person. RSVP deadline is today, March 14.

Father Wild plans to retire July 31, after serving 15 years as Marquette’s 22nd president. He taught theology at Marquette from 1975 to 1984 and has been a member of the university’s Board of Trustees since 1990.

2. U.S. Patent and Trademark Office is subject of Law School lecture

Mark Lemley, the William H. Neukom Professor of Law at Stanford Law School and the director of the Stanford Program in Law, Science and Technology, will deliver the Law School’s Hon. Helen Wilson Nies Annual Lecture at 12:30 p.m. Friday, April 1, in Eckstein Hall. RSVP by Tuesday, March 15.

Lemley will present “Can the Patent Office Be Fixed?” about how examiners can effectively distinguish between patentable and unpatentable inventions without wasting time or money, addressing several proposed resolutions and their problems. Lemley has published seven books and has testified numerous times before Congress, the California legislature, the Federal Trade Commission and the Antitrust Modernization Commission on patent, trade secret, antitrust and constitutional law matters.

3. Tickets for Gingrich event available to the public tomorrow

Tickets for the presentation by Newt Gingrich, former speaker of the U.S. House of Representatives, and his wife Callista, will be available to the public beginning tomorrow, March 15. The Gingriches will visit Marquette on Tuesday, March 29, to present Nine Days that Changed the World, a documentary they produced about Pope John Paul II’s historic visit to Poland in 1979. The 7 p.m. screening of the film in the Tony and Lucille Weasler Auditorium will include a presentation by the Gingriches, followed by a book and DVD signing.

4. Jewish peace activist to speak about experiences in Nazi Germany

The Marquette Center for Peacemaking and the Arab Student Association will sponsor a presentation by Hedy Epstein, “From Kippenheim, Germany to West Bank, Palestine,” on Wednesday, March 23, from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. in AMU 163.

Epstein will speak about her life as a Jew living in Nazi Germany, as well as her experiences as an international peace activist who has seen the plight of the Palestinian people first-hand. The event will include a question and answer session and a free dinner.

5. Workshop to address "Video and audio production"

The Center for Teaching and Learning and the Instructional Media Center are holding “Video and audio production” Monday and Tuesday, March 21 and 22.

The workshop is part of a series focusing on e-teaching subjects and skills that are useful in online and hybrid (combined online and face-to-face) teaching. The series combines the subjects formerly offered in the separate e-teaching and hybrid workshops.

Each workshop will be offered twice a week, on Monday and Tuesday, from noon to 1:30 p.m. in Raynor 320H:

March 28 and 29 — Web 2.0: web pages, timelines, storytelling; wikis and blogs, etc.
April 4 and 5 — Using clickers
April 11 and 12 — Same time technology: Skype, Live Meeting, etc.
April 18 and 19 — What librarians can do for you
May 2 and 3 — Social media; Facebook, LinkedIn, etc.

6. Eight weeks of yoga classes offered

The Employee Wellness Program is offering a yoga class on Wednesdays from March 23 to May 11, from 4:45 p.m. to 5:30 p.m. in Cramer 050. The class, for beginners and intermediates, will cover basic yoga poses that participants can take into their everyday life.

Cost is $40 for eight weeks. Mats are provided, or participants can bring their own.

Register by contacting Faye Otero, human resources coordinator of training and special projects, at 8-7928. Space is limited.

Participants receive one punch on their Wellness Rewards punch card for each yoga class they attend. Every time employees attend a qualifying employee wellness program, they’re eligible to receive a punch on a Wellness Rewards Card. Employees who complete a punch card with 10 punches earn a Wellness Reward Package and entry into an annual grand prize drawing, from participating partners. Wellness Rewards Punch Cards are available at all qualifying employee wellness programs.
