1. Piano sale open to Marquette community members

A large selection of used grand, baby grand and other pianos, as well as other keyboards, orchestral string instruments and guitars, used on campus by Marquette students will be on sale May 27 through May 30 as part of a partnership between Marquette and the Rockley Family Foundation. Most instruments are less than a year old and include a new factory warranty and tuning. The event will be held in the Varsity Theatre.

The pre-sale for Marquette community members is May 27 through May 29 by appointment. Call 8-4884.

The general public final sale day will be from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. Monday, May 30.

2. Weight Watchers series beginning, FSA reimbursement available

The Employee Wellness Program is holding an open house/enrollment meeting for a 12-week Weight Watchers at Work series Thursday, May 26, from 12:30 p.m. to 1 p.m. in Raynor Beaumier Suites BC. Cost is $144 and includes 14 weeks of e-tools, beginning June 2. Cash, checks and major credit cards are accepted. Weight Watchers meetings are Thursdays from noon to 1 p.m. Locations will vary in the AMU and Raynor Library. With a letter from a physician stating weight loss is a medical necessity, Weight Watchers at Work classes are an eligible medical flexible spending account expense (food is not included). This could include weight loss needed to control diabetes, high blood pressure, and other weight-related medical  issues. Since Weight Watchers at Work meetings began at Marquette in July 2009, Marquette participants have lost 1,578 pounds. During the current series, total weight lost is 97.2 lbs and four members have reached their 5 percent goal.

3. College of Professional Studies to hold information session

The College of Professional Studies will hold an undergraduate degree information session for prospective adult students Wednesday, June 8, from 5:45 p.m. to 7 p.m. in Cudahy 414. Information to be presented will include accelerated eight-week-session bachelor’s degree programs (leadership and organizations, professional communication, criminology and law studies, psychology); Saturday, weeknight and online course offerings; the application process; and financial aid opportunities.

4. Registration available for faculty/staff and Rec Plex golf outings

The registration deadline for the annual faculty, staff and administrator golf outing is tomorrow, May 24. The event, Thursday, June 9, at Brookfield Hills Golf Course, costs $32 and includes 18 holes of golf, food, door prizes and awards. Tee times are available from 11:20 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Carts are available for $21. Space is limited. To donate a door prize, contact Anne Pufahl, assistant director of recreational sports, at 8-1558.

The 16th Annual Rec Plex Golf Scramble will be Thursday, June 2, at the Silver Spring Country Club in Menomonee Falls, Wis. Registration (search by state and Marquette University) is still available for the Falls course; the Island Course is full. 5. News Briefs begins weekly schedule next week

The News Briefs e-newsletter will begin its once-a-week summer publication schedule beginning next week. Thursday, May 26, will be the last Thursday edition until fall semester.

Due to the Memorial Day holiday, News Briefs will be issued Tuesday, May 31, next week, rather than Monday, May 30.

The submission deadline for Monday publication remains at noon on Fridays.
