The Office of Mission and Ministry invites the campus community to join in celebrating the Feast of St. Ignatius Loyola Tuesday, July 31. Mass will take place at 11:30 a.m. in the Chapel of the Holy Family, followed by a reception in Westowne Square.

Later this week, members of the university community will be contacted via email by SimpsonScarborough, a market research firm retained by the Office of Marketing and Communication, and asked to complete a short, ten-minute survey.
The survey will articulate six statements about Marquette. You will be asked to rate them for how accurately they describe Marquette today, how aspirational they are for Marquette in the future and how you think their use would positively affect the image and reputation of the university. The survey has also been sent to representative samples of alumni, prospective students and peers in higher education.
"This survey represents another effort to use market research and quantifiable data in establishing our marketing strategies. The combination of internal perspective and external input allows us to shape marketing and identity programs that appeal to the diverse constituents and stakeholders who care about Marquette," said Tricia Geraghty, vice president for Marketing and Communication. "The results can also be used as input into various planning efforts across the university."
A summary of the survey results will be available to the campus community this fall.
The university mourns the death of Sister Sara Jean Donegan of the School Sisters of Notre Dame, who served as a faculty member in the School of Dentistry for more than forty years, as well as an adjunct professor in the Department of General Dental Services. She passed away July 11. A memorial service was held Saturday, July 14, at St. Therese Parish in Milwaukee.
The Department of Biomedical Sciences' Summer Research Program will host its annual Student Research Day Friday, July 27, beginning at 9:30 a.m. Students will present poster sessions until 3 p.m., followed by a reception with light refreshments. The event is a culmination of the work that 44 undergraduate students have conducted over a 10-week period this summer in the research laboratories of 18 faculty mentors from five departments and programs in the College of Health Sciences.
The student presentations cover a range of topics, including new approaches for treating debilitating diseases that plague modern society; clinical research focused on improving and developing new approaches for neuro-rehabilitation in victims of stroke, spinal cord injury and speech disorders; and science that advances basic understanding of clotting, neuro-degeneration and wound healing.

Raynor Memorial Libraries' July issue of Ex Libris is now available, and includes summer reading book recommendations from staff and campus readers. Suggestions include works from the fiction and nonfiction genres, books for armchair travelers and recent literary prizewinners. In addition, the Libraries' website is featuring a resource guide for the fall 2012 first-year book, Half a Life.

The College of Professional Studies will hold an undergraduate degree information session for prospective adult students Wednesday, Aug. 8, from 5:45 p.m. to 7 p.m. in Cudahy Hall, 414. Attendees will learn about the application and admission process for receiving accelerated, eight-week-session bachelor's degrees in areas such as: leadership and organizations, criminology and law studies, professional communication and psychology. The session will include information on Saturday, weeknight and online classes, as well as financial aid options.

All employees wishing to park in university-owned structures and parking lots for the upcoming academic year need to submit an online parking application by the end of the day today, Monday, July 16. Permits will be sent to campus mailboxes by August 15, and will be valid until summer 2014. Applications can be found online.

The Marquette University chapter of Engineers Without Borders has been selected as a regional finalist for the CLASSY Awards, a national philanthropic awards program. The chapter is being recognized for the work students have done to provide electricity and other improvements to a rural community in Guatemala, La Communidad de La Nueva Providencia. Without electricity, villagers had to burn kerosene and candles in homes, which caused health risks because the byproducts can lead to chronic pulmonary disease. During the past five years, the chapter has helped the villagers install solar panels and solar-powered LED lights in homes and outdoors.
The project is soliciting support via online voting through July 26, to advance to the national stage of the CLASSY competition. To vote for the Marquette project, visit go.mu.edu/muclassy. Online votes account for half of the team's score; the remaining half is based on votes from previous CLASSY Award winners.
Regional winners will be announced July 31. National CLASSY winners will be announced Sept. 22 at an awards ceremony in San Diego. National winners receive consulting and fundraising support from eBay Giving Works, PayPal and eBoost.
The Purchasing Department and Mail Services will present an additional training session on "How to Design and Process Mail Effectively" Tuesday, August 21, from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. in Raynor Memorial Libraries, Beaumier Suites B and C.
The session will cover topics including the design of the mail piece, address management, and how mail enters and moves through the mail stream. Individuals who are responsible for the design or any part of the distribution of off-campus mail would benefit from attending.
