Dr. Linda M. Salchenberger, who is currently serving as the James H. Keyes dean of the College of Business Administration, has been appointed to a new role as associate provost for academic planning and budgeting effective Aug. 15.
Salchenberger brings extensive experience in budgeting and strategic planning to this new position. She currently co-chairs the university's financial planning committee, worked with the business faculty to develop and implement a three year strategic plan as dean, and has significant consulting experience in the area. In her new role, Salchenberger will report to the provost and work closely with executive vice president, Dr. Mary DiStanislao, to help Marquette align its strategic priorities with its financial and budgetary systems.
"This unique opportunity and the fact that the college is in a strong position makes this the right move at the right time," said Provost John Pauly. "As dean of the College of Business Administration, Linda led a successful accreditation process, formed a high-profile Dean's Council of Excellence, strengthened the college's centers, and revamped the executive MBA program, to name just a few of her accomplishments."
Dr. Mark Eppli, Bell Chair in Real Estate, will serve as the interim dean of the College of Business Administration. A formal search will begin one year from now for a new permanent dean to begin July 1, 2014.
The university mourns the death of Dr. Ralph Del Colle, associate professor of theology, who has served as a professor in the Department of Theology since 1995. He passed away July 29, at the age of 57. Visitation will be held Wednesday, Aug. 1, from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. at Schmidt & Bartelt Funeral Home, located at 10121 W. North Avenue in Wauwatosa, Wis. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held Thursday, Aug. 2, beginning at 10:30 a.m. at Cathedral of St. John the Evangelist, located at 812 N. Jackson Street in Milwaukee. Del Colle's wife, Lee Coppernoll, is associate director of the Haggerty Museum of Art.
Specializing in Trinitarian theology, Christology, pneumatology and theology of grace, Del Colle joined Marquette as an assistant professor in 1995 and was promoted to associate professor in 2001. His numerous published works include Talking with Evangelicals: A Guide for Catholics (2012), and articles on Pentecostal-Catholic dialogue and the Trinity that appeared in the International Journal of Systematic Theology, Journal of Pentecostal Theology, The Spirit and Church, and elsewhere. Del Colle was inducted into the Academy of Catholic Theology in Washington, D.C., in May 2012.
Del Colle served in a number of leadership positions for the Department of Theology and the university, including as a member of the university board of undergraduate studies, the Manresa Project advisory board, and the Department of Theology's graduate admission and financial aid committee.
He received his bachelor's degree in the history and literature of religion from New York University, and his master of divinity, master of philosophy and doctorate degrees from Union Theological Seminary.

Dr. Curtis Carter, professor of philosophy, will give a lecture on the role of philosophy and the arts at the Olympics to the International Olympics Committee and VIP guests Thursday, Aug. 2, in London. He will speak at an award ceremony hosted by the The Truce Foundation of the USA, an organization that promotes the Olympic ideals of peace, friendship and international understanding. Carter's lecture will discuss the Olympics as an event that embraces a broad range of cultural activities, from athletics to art, focusing on the role of art during the Olympics from ancient times to the present.
Carter spoke at the same awards program during the Beijing Olympics in 2008. He is an expert on aesthetics and art theory, serving on the board of directors of the International Research Center for Aesthetics and Art Theory, and as president of the International Association for Aesthetics.
There will be no access to MARQCAT, the online library system for Raynor Memorial Libraries and Eckstein Law Library, Tuesday, Aug. 7, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., as a system upgrade is completed.
During the downtime, users will be able to access databases and e-journals from campus locations and from off-campus only by VPN. On campus users may search for books using OCLC's WorldCat. The Primary Care Provider Form for employees planning to see their primary care provider for this fall's two-part health risk assessment are now available. Employees who complete the HRA process will receive a 10 percent discount for 2012-2013 health insurance premiums.
There are two parts for the HRA process. The first step is a biometric screening completed by the employee's primary care provider or a screening provided on campus. Biometric screenings for employees seeing their primary care provider must fall between July 1 and Nov. 17, 2012. Dates for on-campus screenings will be announced in early fall for appointments beginning in late October through mid-November. The second step of the HRA is to complete an online questionnaire, which will be available in early October.
All employees and their spouses or same sex domestic partners are eligible to participate in the HRA process, although the Marquette employee must participate in order to receive the insurance discount. Spouse and same sex domestic partner participation is not mandatory for the discount but is encouraged, as an HRA can help determine risk factors for chronic diseases and identify how to make healthier choices. The cost for both employee and spouse or same sex domestic partner assessment is paid by Marquette University.
The Department of Biological Sciences' Summer Research Program will host its annual undergraduate research poster session Thursday, Aug. 2, from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. in the hallways of Wehr Life Sciences. Students recruited nationally and funded by the department's National Science Foundation undergraduate research site for cellular and molecular biology, as well as students funded by the College of Arts and Sciences, the department, and faculty research grants, will present findings from their 10 week faculty mentored projects. Students from the Department of Biomedical Sciences and Lakeland College will also present their summer research. Light refreshments will be served in the west lobby.

Students participating in the Department of Mathematics, Statistics and Computer Science Research Experience for Undergraduates program this summer will present their research at two showcase events.
