Sean Gissal, CFA, chief investment officer, has been named the Small Endowment Manager of the Year in Institutional Investor magazine's 2012 U.S. Investment Management Awards. The awards recognize eight U.S. institutional investors whose innovative strategies and fiduciary savvy resulted in impressive overall fund performance.
Gissal, who manages Marquette's $400 million endowment, graduated with a bachelor's degree in accounting from the University of Wisconsin-Whitewater in 1995. He will be honored and awarded at a dinner and ceremony Monday, May 14, in New York.
Also being honored with the 2012 Money Management Lifetime Achievement award is two-time Marquette alumnus Dan Fuss, vice-chairman of Loomis, Sayles & Co. Fuss is a 1955 graduate of Marquette's College of Business Administration and earned his graduate degree from Marquette in 1965.
The Gender Resource Center invites the campus community to participate in a series of presentations by candidates for the position of director of the Gender Resource Center, which will be held during the week of April 23. Four candidates for the director position are scheduled to visit campus and give presentations.

Hunger Clean-Up is selling t-shirts for $10 featuring the 2012 theme "We are Marquette, We are Milwaukee." Shirts can be purchased in the AMU, 329, or the Brooks Lounge with cash, credit, check or Marquette cash. Proceeds benefit local organizations through service and community grants.
Hunger Clean-Up is also collecting food donations for Hunger Task Force Saturday, April 21, starting at 8 a.m. in Westowne Square. In exchange for two non-perishable food items, individuals will receive a free Brewers tickets for the Tuesday, May 22 game against the San Francisco Giants. Additionally, individuals wearing a 2012 Hunger Clean-Up shirt after service and reflection on April 21 may also qualify for a free ticket.

A prayer vigil in honor of Milwaukee deportees will take place tonight, Monday, April 16, from 7:45 p.m. to 9 p.m. in the St. Joan of Arc Chapel. The vigil is in memory of people deported from Milwaukee during the past year, and family members of deportees will give personal testimonies.

Dr. Kriste Lindenmeyer, dean of the faculty of Arts and Sciences at Rutgers University¬-Camden, will deliver the annual Distinguished Eleanor H. Boheim Lecture Wednesday, April 18, at 6 p.m. in Eckstein Hall, fourth floor conference center. Titled, "Dreamers, the Occupy Movement and Lessons from America's 'Greatest Generation,'" the lecture will discuss how the political activism of youth in the 1930s offers lessons for the current generation facing a challenging economy.
The lecture is presented by the Association of Marquette University Women, which promotes the interests of Marquette's past, present and future female students and strives to enhance educational and cultural opportunities for women.

Eric Koester, Marquette alumnus and co-founder and chief marketing officer at Zaarly, will be the keynote speaker at the Marquette Business Plan Competition banquet Wednesday, April 18, from 4:30 p.m. to 9 p.m. in the AMU Monaghan Ballroom.

The Department of English, along with FAME (Friends and Alumni of Marquette English) and the Office of Student Development, will host their annual "Shakespeare's Birthday Party," Wednesday, April 25 at 4 p.m. in the Weasler Auditorium. The celebration will include a performance of "In Acting Shakespeare," featuring James DeVita of American Players Theatre. This show is DeVita's adaptation of Sir Ian McKellan's script, Acting Shakespeare, and blends together the story of Shakespeare's life and soliloquies with DeVita's own story of how the works of Shakespeare led him from working on fishing boats to a career on the stage.

The Department of Physics will host a colloquium titled, "Accelerator-Based Light Sources," Thursday, April 19, at 3:30 p.m. in Wehr Physics, 141. Dr. Sandra Biedron, director of the Department of Defense Project Office in Applied Science and Technology and associate professor of electrical and computer engineering at Colorado State University, will talk about the history of the field of accelerator-based light sources and her research on beam and laser source development and use.

The Department of Foreign Languages and Literatures will host Spanish filmmaker Manuel Martin Cuenca and hold a screening of his film "Malas Tempradadas" ("Hard Times"), Wednesday, April 18, at 7 p.m. in Cudahy Hall, 001. Prior to the film screening, there will be a student-led roundtable discussion and keynote address by Cuenca at 6 p.m. Following the film, at 9 p.m., there will be an open discussion with Cuenca. The Counseling Center will hold a QPR suicide-prevention training session Thursday, April 19, from noon to 1:30 p.m. in the AMU, 254. The "Question, Persuade, Refer" training is a nationally recognized program designed to save lives through increasing awareness about suicide risk factors and warning signs. It teaches participants how to talk to someone about suicide and educates participants on how to facilitate appropriate mental health referrals. The training is open to the Marquette community. The second program of the Counseling Center's spring series on mental health topics will focus on healthy relationships, and will be led by Lynn O'Brien, a licensed marriage and family therapist at the Counseling Center. Dance Inc. will hold its spring showcase, "Move Your Body," Friday, April 20, at 7 p.m. and Sunday, April 22, at 2 p.m., in the Weasler Auditorium. The Marquette University Liturgical Choir will perform their spring concert, "Sing Praise to God," Saturday, April 21, at 7:30 p.m. in Gesu Church. The performance will feature songs from a wide range of styles including chant, classical choral works, contemporary song, American spiritual, African and gospel music. The program will follow the liturgical tear, ordinary time through Advent, and Christmas through Easter.
