2. Celebration for Father Naus will be held Tuesday, Aug. 28

A birthday and retirement celebration will be held for Rev. John Naus, S.J., Tuesday, Aug. 28, from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. in the AMU, Monaghan Ballroom. A video presentation and remarks will begin at 11:15 a.m. and refreshments will be served. Guests should RSVP to Annette Conrad, associate director of the AMU.

Individuals wishing to honor Father Naus by making a gift to the Rev. John E. Naus, S.J., Scholarship Fund can do so online.

3. Central Mall walkway replacements begin today

Work will begin today on the replacement of the two asphalt walkways on the Central Mall. The new northwest walkway will be reconstructed in the same location, while the path of the northeast walkway will be slightly altered. Demolition of abandoned and old concrete sidewalks will also occur at this time. The paving work will be followed by landscape restoration. All work on the Central Mall will be completed by Tuesday, Aug. 21.

4. Office of Residence Life looking for volunteers for Arrival Days

The Office of Residence Life is looking for volunteers to help welcome students to campus. Freshmen Arrival Day is Wednesday, Aug. 22, and sophomores arrive Saturday, Aug. 25. Volunteers can work as greeters, assist with administrative tasks or volunteer to help students move into their rooms. There is no minimum or maximum time commitment.

5. Celebrate the Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary on Wednesday

The campus community is invited to celebrate the Solemnity of the Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary, a holy day of obligation, Wednesday, Aug. 15, at noon in the Chapel of the Holy Family.

6. News Briefs to resume twice-per-week schedule next week

News Briefs will resume a twice-per-week academic year schedule beginning next week. During the academic year, News Briefs is published every Monday and Thursday, except academic breaks, when only the Monday edition is published. The deadline for the Monday edition is noon Friday.
