1. December graduation applications available online

Undergraduate students and Law School students who plan to graduate in December 2012 can now apply online for graduation. The “Apply for Graduation” link is located in students’ CheckMarq accounts under the “My Academics” tab. Students are encouraged to apply as soon as possible.

2. Newt Gingrich to speak at campaign rally on campus

Republican presidential candidate Newt Gingrich will speak at a campaign rally Thursday, March 29, from 7:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. in the Weasler Auditorium. Gingrich will give a speech and answer questions from the audience. Tickets for this free event will be available after noon on Tuesday, March 27, in the AMU, Brooks Lounge. There is a limit of one ticket per MUID.

3. College of Arts and Sciences holding majors fair

The Klingler College of Arts and Sciences will host its annual “Explore the Majors” Fair Wednesday, March 28, from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. in the AMU, Ballrooms C, D and E. The fair provides an opportunity for students to discuss majors and minors with faculty representatives, alumni and upperclassmen from every major in the College of Arts and Sciences.

4. Gender Sexuality Alliance hosting panel discussion

Gender Sexuality Alliance will host a panel discussion, “Bringing the Rainbow to Marquette: Lessons from the Big Gay Conference,” Wednesday, March 28, at 6 p.m. in Raynor Memorial Libraries, Beaumier Suites B and C. The panel will aim to engage the campus community in dialogue around ongoing gender and sexuality issues, and will be moderated by Dr. Ed de St. Aubin, associate professor and assistant chair of the Department of Psychology.

5. Documentary screening with producer of Fambul Tok

The Center for Peacemaking is hosting a documentary screening of Fambul Tok, a film about healing in Sierra Leone following civil war, told through the eyes of perpetrators and victims, Thursday, March 29, at 7:30 p.m. in the AMU, 163. After the film, Sara Terry, producer and director of the film, will discuss the film and its message about the power of forgiveness.

6. Brain Awareness Week events continue Friday

The Integrative Neuroscience Research Center and the Milwaukee chapter of the Society for Neuroscience will host a seminar in conjunction with Brain Awareness Week titled, “Human Brain in Health and Disease,” Friday, March 30, from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. in Cramer Hall, 087. The seminar, which is presented by Marquette researchers and is open to the public, will cover aging and memory, as well as obesity and spinal cord injuries.

7. Counseling Center offering series on mental health topics

The Counseling Center is offering a spring programming series on mental health topics that impact the campus community. The first program in the series, “The Truth about Autism and Asperger’s in College,” will be presented Wednesday, March 28, from 4 p.m. to 5 p.m. in Cudahy Hall, 001, by Dr. Amy Van Hecke, assistant professor of psychology and director of Marquette’s Autism Clinic and Dr. Dyani Saxby, postdoctoral fellow at the Counseling Center. After the presentation, audience members will be able to ask questions of an individual living with Asperger’s about his personal college experience.

8. Department of Biomedical Engineering to host symposium

The Department of Biomedical Engineering will host a symposium Thursday, March 29, at 1 p.m. in Olin Engineering, 202. The Anthony Sances, Jr., Memorial Lecture, titled, “Unique Technologies to Help Provide Safer Care for More Patients,” will be given by Dr. Kunter Akbay, principal engineer at GE’s Global Research Center in New York. He currently leads a multidisciplinary team of engineers and scientists studying hospital capacity and safety research initiatives at GE.

The lecture will be followed by oral presentations by doctoral candidates from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m., also in Olin, 202, and a poster session and reception in Engineering Hall’s first floor commons from 4 p.m. to 5 p.m.

9. Kick-off lecture Thursday for Lewis and Clark exhibition

A kick-off lecture in conjunction with the traveling Lewis and Clark exhibition currently on display in the lobby of Raynor Library will be held Thursday, March 29, at 4:30 p.m. in the Prucha Archives Reading Room. Dr. Frederick Hoxie, professor of history at the University of Illinois, will present, “Getting a Bicentennial Right: Who Cares?” Visit the Raynor Memorial Libraries’ website for additional information.

Marquette is the last stop for the five-year traveling exhibition on Lewis and Clark, which will be located in the lobby of Raynor Library until April 27.

10. Lunch and learn session on psychology of innovation

The Kohler Center for Entrepreneurship will host a lunch and learn session about the psychology of innovation Friday, March 30, from noon to 1 p.m. in the 707 Building, 422. Jonathan Allan, associate director of innovation programs at the University of Chicago’s Booth School of Business, will lead a discussion on using psychological strategies and persuasive techniques to help startups, non-profits and established companies bring about behavior changes they seek in their customers.

11. Pre-register for Lil' Sibs Weekend by Friday

Lil’ Sibs Weekend, which gives students and their younger siblings the chance to spend a weekend together on campus, will take place Friday, April 20 to Sunday, April 22. This year’s theme is, “MU Zoo: It’s a Roarin’ Good Time!” Residence hall and apartment councils will host a variety of activities, including a zoo trip, a bingo night and a carnival.

13. Campus Ministry hosting lecture, Tuesday Lenten Prayer

Campus Ministry will host a lecture titled, “The Stations of the Cross: Halting Places to Ponder the Passion and Death of Christ,” Thursday, March 29, at 7:30 p.m. in the Chapel of the Holy Family. Given by Fr. James Neilson, O. Praem, a Norbertine Canon of St. Norbert Abbey and assistant professor of art at St. Norbert College, the lecture will focus on how religious art offers a vision into the faith of the Catholic Church, as well as the evolution of the Christian imagination of the Stations of the Cross. This event is co-sponsored by the Church of the Gesu.

Campus Ministry is also offering a Tuesday Lenten Prayer on Tuesday, March 27, at 5 p.m. in St. Joan of Arc Chapel. This short prayer service provides an opportunity to slow down and reflect upon the season of Lent.

Physical therapy students will host a Massage-A-Thon through Friday, April 13, at Schroeder Health Complex, 397. Hours are Mondays from 4 p.m. to 9 p.m., Tuesdays from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m., Wednesdays from 3 p.m. to 9 p.m., Thursdays from 1 p.m. to 9 p.m. and Fridays from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m.

The cost is $7 for every 15 minutes, up to 60 minutes. Appointments can be scheduled by e-mail or online. Walk-ins are welcome, and cash or checks are accepted.
