1. Men's basketball Sweet 16 send-off event is tomorrow at 3:30 p.m., student transportation package to Washington, D.C., available

The Marquette University men's basketball team defeated the Butler Bulldogs 74-72 Saturday night to advance to its third straight Sweet 16 appearance in the NCAA Tournament. The No. 3-seeded Golden Eagles will take on the No. 2-seeded Miami Hurricanes on Thursday, March 28, at 6:15 p.m. CT, in the Verizon Center in Washington, D.C. The game will be broadcast on CBS.

Members of the campus community will send off the team in grand fashion outside of the Al McGuire Center, 770 N. 12th Street, at 3:30 p.m. Tuesday, March 26. The Marquette band, cheerleaders and Golden Eagle mascot will be at the event.

The Union Sports Annex, located at 16th Street and Wells Street, will open at 4:30 p.m. Thursday, March 28, and will host a viewing party for the 6:15 p.m. tipoff with fan giveaways, raffle prizes and a T-shirt toss.

MUSG is offering a student fan transportation package for the upcoming Sweet Sixteen game. Details will be sent to student ticket holders later this evening, but tentative plans are to offer $75 round-trip bus transportation, leaving Milwaukee on the evening of Wednesday, March 27, and departing from Washington, D.C., for the return trip after the game Saturday, March 30. A low-cost hotel option near the Marquette team headquarters hotel is also being explored. Fanatics interested in this travel option should check their email or contact musg@marquette.edu for more details. The travel package does not include game tickets, which should be requested directly through Athletics by calling 8-4668 by 5 p.m. today.

2. MUSG election postponed until after Easter break

The spring MUSG general election, originally scheduled to take place Tuesday, March 26, has been postponed until Wednesday, April 3, because of an upcoming hearing to address alleged election rule violations during the primary by one of the campaigns for MUSG President and Executive Vice President. The election cannot take place until the final candidates to appear on the ballot have been verified and confirmed.

5. Participate in traditional Arab Henna wedding ceremony

The Arab and Muslim Women's Research and Resource Institute, the Office of International Education and the Wisconsin Humanities Council will host a traditional Arab Henna wedding ceremony Saturday, April 6, from 5:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. in AMU, 227. This ceremony will honor Alexander Fabrizio, Arts and Sciences '13, and his fiancé, Rochelle Christensen, Arts and Sciences '12. Henna night is a popular celebration in Arab culture, wherein the bride and groom, along with their family and friends, celebrate the upcoming wedding by wearing traditional embroidered dresses and joining in a night of festivities, music, folk dance, songs and ceremonial feasts.

7. Sign up to participate in Colleges Against Cancer's Relay for Life

The Marquette chapter of Colleges Against Cancer will host Relay for Life, from 6 p.m. Saturday, April 13, to Sunday, April 14, at 2 a.m. at the Helfaer Recreation Center. Themed "Super Heroes," the event will feature food, games and activities throughout the night while participants take turns walking around the track.

Team sign-ups are now available online. Relay for Life is the biggest annual fundraiser sponsored by Colleges Against Cancer and the American Cancer Society. Funds raised go toward helping advance cancer research and treatments.

8. Deadline to apply for Women's and Gender Studies fellowships extended to April 2

The Women's and Gender Studies program is seeking proposals for four research fellowships to be awarded to faculty and undergraduate students. Two collaborative research fellowships will be awarded to faculty and undergraduate student teams for research to be performed in the summer and fall of 2013 related to gender and/or sexuality. In addition, two undergraduate summer research fellowships will be awarded for undergraduate research related to gender and/or sexuality, performed under the supervision of a faculty member during the summer of 2013.

Students and faculty in all disciplines and colleges are encouraged to apply. To be eligible, students must be undergraduates who will be enrolled at Marquette in the fall of 2013. All fellowship recipients will be expected to present their research to the campus community at a formal event in November.
