Fall 2008: Death and Dying
HEAL 152 Death & Dying, 3 credits, may be taken for Graduate or Undergraduate credit. Open to all students with Junior Standing. The course is also open to community members. Registration can be for credit or as a non degree course.

Course description: Multidisciplinary perspective on death and dying. Includes historical, sociocultural, legal and ethical dimensions, the dying process, grief and bereavement, and communities of care.
Upon completion of this course the student will be able to:
- Explore historical and sociocultural dimensions of death and dying
- Apply legal and ethical principles in analysis of complex issues in end of life care
- Describe psychological, emotional, and physical elements of the dying process for individuals and caregivers
- Analyze concepts and theories related to end-of-life care including mourning and grief
- Explore multidisciplinary communities of care for dying persons and their families
- Evaluate appropriate resources for consumer decision-making regarding end- of- life care.
