Who are the nurse practitioners at MNHC?
All MNHC nurse practitioners are registered nurses with graduate degrees in nursing. Nurse practitioners are licensed by the state to function independently. We work collaboratively with other health care professionals to provide the best possible care.
Our nurse practitioners provide a wide range of primary health care services to children, adults and families at the center, with a focus on the person rather than the disease, and are qualified to handle a wide range of health problems, including many that traditionally have been performed by physicians.
Why see an MNHC nurse practitioner?
- Nurse practitioners are qualified to provide 90 percent of primary care needed by children and 80 percent of primary care needed by adults.
- Nurse practitioners make appropriate referrals when necessary.
- The quality of care provided by nurse practitioners is the same high level as that of doctors based on physical exams, prescriptions, patient education, and improvement in patients’ physical, emotional and social health.
- Many people express a preference for nurse practitioners because of their enhanced communication, counseling and interviewing skills, and more complete exams.
