Jean-Bertrand Aristide is a Haitian politician and former Roman Catholic priest who
served as Haiti's first democratically elected president. He was briefly President
of Haiti in 1991, prior to a September 1991 military coup, and was President again
from 1994 to 1996 and from 2001 to 2004.
Edwidge Danticat is a Haitian born author. Her novels and short stories have been
critically acclaimed and she is a strong advocate for issues affecting Haitians abroad
and at home.
Paul Farmer is an American physician and anthropologist. He has written numerous books
on Haiti and global health and is one of the founders of Partners in Health (PIH), a worldwide health organization that operates a free hospital in Haiti.
