Soldiers turn themselves in over Jesuit killings
Nine ex-soldiers from El Salvador turned themselves in at a military base after hearing that Salvadoran police intended to arrest them under orders from Interpol. The nine are accused of murdering six Jesuit priests, their housekeeper and her daughter during El Salvador's civil war. Gen Rene Emilio Ponce, the soldier who ordered the killings died in May, but ten other suspects remain at large. The priests worked at the Central American University and were killed under suspicion of sympathizing with left-wing rebels of Farabundo Marti National Liberation Front (FMLN). Tens of thousands of people were killed in the 12-year civil war in El Salvador before the UN negotiated a peace agreement in 1992. Read more on BBC News.

Stand out from the crowd - study abroad!
What are you waiting for? Now is the time to do something for your future. We have all heard about the tough job market students are facing these days. How can you stand out from the crowd?
Studying abroad can hold the key to a successful career in the global economy we live in today. You learn how to interact in a different culture, speak a new language, adapt to unfamiliar situations, and make long-lasting friendships around the world.
According to NAFSA, only one percent of American college students study abroad per year. However, here at Marquette 23% of last year's graduating class studied abroad. Be the difference and take your education abroad. Attend a Friday pre-advising session, visit the OIE website and complete your application today. Study abroad applications for spring 2011 are due October 1.
