The Marquette Library has worked with the ESL Program and the writing center to create an "ESL Research Guide" to help students locate physical and online English language learning resources available in the library. More items are being added all the time. We will also be holding a special library orientation at the beginning of each semester to familiarize students with the library self-help resources.

Writing Center

The Ott Memorial Writing Center offers free one-to-one tutoring to all Marquette students, staff, and faculty on all kinds of writing projects.  Most appointments last about 45 minutes to an hour.  Bring a copy of the assignment, your notes, your ideas and a draft (if you have already written it) so that the tutors in the Writing Center can provide you with the best assistance.  Call 288-5542 to schedule an appointment.  The Center is open 9am-5pm during the semester and some weekend and evening hour, depending on tutor availability. 

Speech and Hearing Clinic

The Speech and Hearing Clinic offers free speech and hearing evaluations and group and individual sessions for accent reduction for Marquette students.  The Clinic operates on a semester basis, including summer.  Hours are Monday through Friday, 9am-5pm.  Call the Clinic at 288-7426 for further information.

Student Educational Services

Student Educational Services provides free academic support services to Marquette students.  They provide small group tutoring for classes and provide study skills workshops.  They also house the Office of Disability Services, which helps arrange accommodations for students with disabilities.  For more information on their services, call 288-3270 or visit AMU 317.

Counseling Center

The Counseling Center provides individual and group consultations for students with personal concerns such as anxiety, depression, and other mental health issues.  They also help students who are trying to determine their major or making career decisions.  Call 288-7172 to make an appointment or visit the Center at Holthusen Hall, 204 from 8am-4:30pm Monday-Friday.

Marquette Language Exchange

Sponsored by the Office of International Education, the Language Exchange helps match students of different language backgrounds so that they can meet together and exchange fluency in one language for increased fluency in another.  Visit the Office of International Education Program Center (407 AMU) to find out how to participate in the Language Exchange.    

International Friendship Program

The Marquette International Friendship Program creates year-long “friendship matches” between Marquette’s international students and Milwaukee community members to encourage intercultural sharing.

MU International Student Peer Mentoring Program

The Peer Mentoring Program matches new international students with upper class Marquette students. The program is designed to help new students transition to life at Marquette but is also a wonderful opportunity to build on language skills.
