Rep. Pedro Colon to be Honored by
Marquette University
Released:
April 21,2005
MILWAUKEE- Rep. Pedro Colon, the 8th District representative
in the Wisconsin Assembly, will be honored by the Marquette
University Alumni Association at its annual Alumni National
Awards Dinner on Saturday, April 23. Colon will be awarded
the Spirit of Marquette award for achievement before age 40.
It was while at Marquette that Colon became interested in
politics, and through the Les Aspin Center for Government,
he served as an intern in the office of former Congressman
Jerry Kleczka. Colon graduated from Marquette in 1991,
and just eight years later, made history when he became the
first Latino elected to the state assembly. In that
capacity he has been an advocate for education and health
care, and a role model to immigrants in his district and around
the state. He serves on the Committee on Highway Safety
and the Joint Committee on Finance in the legislature, as
well as the Governor's Migrant Labor Council and the Milwaukee
Metropolitan Sewer District Board.
The Alumni National Awards dinner is part of Marquette University's
Alumni Awards weekend, during which each college honors the
contributions of their alumni and bestows awards on those
demonstrating exceptional achievement.
