Marquette to Offer Congregational History Workshop Saturday, Sept. 16
Released: July 27, 2006
Church historians and archivists perform very important services for their congregations, but the task of recording a church’s history and the experiences of its congregation may seem overwhelming, especially if not kept current. To address this challenge, Drs. John Krugler and Steve Avella, professors of history at Marquette University, are offering a day-long congregational history workshop for church historians and archivists on Saturday, Sept. 16.
“The workshop provides a rare opportunity for church archivists and historians to come together, share their experiences and learn tools that will help them excel in their chosen field of church service,” said Dr. John Krugler, associate professor of history at Marquette.
The program will discuss where archivists and historians should start, why it is important to write good histories and the possible challenges in collecting data and managing an archive. It will take place in Marquette’s Alumni Memorial Union, 1442 W. Wisconsin Ave. There is a $25 fee which includes the day-long workshop, lunch and parking.
Registration is required by Friday, Sept. 1. For additional information, please contact the Marquette University History Department at (414) 288-7217, or e-mail Krugler or Dr. Steve Avella.
