by Marquette University
Award to recognize John Madden's service to the community
Released:
April 21, 2005
MILWAUKEE- John P. Madden will be honored by the Marquette
University Alumni Association at its annual Alumni National
Awards Dinner on Saturday, April 23. Madden will be
awarded the Service to the Community Award.
After earning his business degree from Marquette University
in 1956, Madden founded a successful communications firm in
Chicago, but even more remarkable is the success he has found
in contributing to the children in his community. For
over 40 years, Madden has been involved with Maryville, a
program in Chicago for abused and neglected youths, and for
30 of those years he served as Maryville's chairman of the
board. Madden also served as chairman of the Illinois
Department of Children and Family Services for four years
and was a member of the Archdiocese of Chicago Catholic Charities
Board of Directors.
Madden is a leader in the Marquette community as well.
He helped organize the Marquette Club of Chicago in 1960,
and received the Marquette University Alumni Service Award
in 1974. Madden was elected to the Marquette University
Board of Trustees in 1997. He is also a member of the University's
1881 Society.
The Alumni National Awards dinner is part of Marquette University's
Alumni Awards weekend, during which each college honors the
contributions of their alumni and bestows awards on those
demonstrating exceptional achievement.
