Music in the Air at Marquette

Marquette’s annual Family Weekend (Sept. 29 to Oct. 1) will feature two concerts this year. The Choral Concert will be held Saturday, Sept. 30, at 2 p.m. in the Weasler Auditorium. The University Symphonic Band plays its second annual outdoor concert Sunday at noon in Westowne Square (just west of the Alumni Memorial Union). Both events are free and open to the public.
Choral Concert

The choral concert will feature the Marquette University Chorus, Chamber Choir and The Naturals. Under the direction of Gregory Carpenter, the choirs will be performing a variety of musical selections, from contemporary to traditional choral music.
Recorded CDs from the 2005-2006 season will also be available at the concert, at $20 each ($15 for Marquette students).
Symphonic Band Concert

Sunday’s band concert marks the debut of the new band director, Dr. Otis French. He succeeds Dr. Nicholas J. Contorno, who retired last spring after 23 years as director of music programs. The performance will feature music by Rossini, Sousa, Sparke, Gibson and more in an “Old Fashioned Band in the Park” atmosphere, complete with an ice cream social.
